What a nice find. China Town Express is a hole in the wall that has found a very dedicated audience. The restaurant is very clearly a family affair and you can see many of the dishes being prepared in the front window.
It's tiny. It's noisy. No waiting area whatsoever. For those who are attracted by the energy and compact conditions, you will be rewarded with some really authentic Cantonese cooking. If you are looking for PF Chang's or mall food - go elsewhere.
I was lucky enough to share a table with a local who had emigrated from China. He shared some perspectives on the different kinds of Chinese cuisine. Cantonese food should be light, simple, and emphasize the flavor of the ingredients. Cantonese food has a bias toward seafood - true to form, the entry has a few tanks for fresh fish, crab, and lobster.
My dinner companion's description certainly fits the description of the dishes. Noodles are made fresh on site and are remarkably tender, but not mushy.
We had noodle dishes and some BBQ pork. Everything was great. I observed many of the other plates in the restaurant and was very pleased. Portions are ample and there wasn't a thing that didn't look great.
If you are looking for a quick fix on Chinese food and don't mind a short walk from the Metro, this is a great option. Cheap too. Both of us ate for $25 - including tax and tip.
