We enjoy dining here. I especially enjoy the fish dishes and my wife the veal specialties. The maitrwe d is very welcoming9ng and the ambiance is fine. Only caveat -- At our last visit, our waiter was almost surly. Visibly expressed disdain when we did not order one of the specialties and then reached in front of me to pick up the check and payment inviting us to leave promptly. Probably won't return.

My wife and I always include Villa D’Este whenever we intend to make the evening a special event. The service and the food are always excellent and the restaurant exceptional at providing a quality evening. Whether dining before going to the Kennedy Center or just out for a relaxing evening with friends it is always a pleasure. The staff is attentive and the food well prepared and excellently served. It’s been a favorite for over three years.

This restaurant is one that we have frequented over many years. The food is excellent, it is a pretty place, except the outside which is a little seedy. We were given menus but not the $40. for 2 menus until I asked specifically. I think they don't want you to order from them. Once we used a coupon, and they made a scene which ruined our dinner. The menu, and the coupon does not say anything about not being valid with the $40. specials. In the past, the deceased owner insulted my son in the middle of his dinner with his girlfriend - he decided never to go back. His widow, who now runs the place is not much better. The atmosphere is quite unfriendly. My suggestion is keep the chef, but get new management. I think that's why it is more than half empty.

My sister and I were in the D.C. area to attend the funeral of our aunt at Arlington Cemetery. I chose Villa D'Este because of the online reviews; it was Italian; and it was close to our accomodations. We arrived and were immediately seated by a middle-aged woman with an indifferent attiude who gave us no menus. No matter, a middle-aged man brought us menus. My sister talked me into ordering the daily special dinner which included salad or soup, a choice of a main course and a choice of desserts. The waiter arrived. He recited the specials of the day which sounded delicious. Since my sister had not conceded who would pay for dinner I went along with the daily dinner special. The waiter was affronted that we ignored the specials and went with the discounted dinner offering. He stared at my sister with a disdain that enraged me. He locked his gaze on her with a sneer so evident that I wanted to rise from my chair to throttle him. I refrained. I docilely ordered the fava bean soup. It was not notable. In fact, it was bland. The main cours of lamb chops arrived. Appropriately medium rare but tasting of salt and garlic so overpowering I could not taste the meat. The dessert, tirramisu, was okay. Surrounding us was were tables that appeared to me to be inhabited by locals. Our waiter treated them with an affability that was remarkable in so far as it compared to his disdain for us. I do not recommend this place for either its food or its service. AVOID IT LIKE THE PLAGUE.

This is the best Italian restaurant in Old Town. I come here all the time with my husband, and our friends, and suggest it to everyone I know. Never once have I had a bad meal, and never once had a complaint. Everyone I recommend this place to comes back thanking me for the great new find!!

I love this place, you can order off the menu too. The calamari salad is excellent, as is every dish they serve. I could eat there every day!
This is the best Italian restaurant in the area.

My husband and I having been coming here for 2 years and this year make it our 3rd celebration of our Anniversary. I most say that, I was sick the next day and I will never go back. I'm really stunned that this has happened to me and not to mention we had to pay the cost twice..... the bill and my illness :-(
I kind of suspected that something was wrong with the dish I was eating, but thought nothing serious of it until I was in the bathroom the the next day!
