Top Reviews of China Jade

review_stars 08/26/2015 - Morgan
I am an American Born Chinese. I have forgotten my mandarin and am not in touch with my family, but my comfort food (a la macaroni and cheese for Americans) is spicy Schezuan fare. I'm not sure who is writing some of these reviews (cough, morons...) but I've been going to and loving China Jade for years. First off, it's family owned. They do not deliver and there may be some language/cultural barriers. There is at least one English fluent family member who tends to run the front of house in the evening...There is (as mentioned by the not-morons or people who have actually been there) both an English and Chinese menu. The Chinese menu does have English words on it so even my non-mandarin speaking self can order something authentic--like "fried omentum" (Chinese menudo, basically...). The Chinese menu consists of foods that are generally more authentic (not your lo mein type items), although everything I've eaten there including the English menu items ordered by my friends has been tasty. The Chinese menu items also tend to be aggressively spicier. Schezuan food is lean but heavy on the spicy and umami flavors--so eat with caution if you are not a saavy consumer of authentic Chinese foods. All in all, China Jade is the "real deal"--and virtually all of my asian friends frequent it. If Beef with Broccoli served by a suburban kid is more your speed, then go to Pei Wei and please stop defaming one of the best places in town.

Several of the reviews listed here reflect the ignorance of the writers. This is, in my view, the best Szechuan restaurant in Colorado and one of the best Chinese restaurants. BUT, it is aimed at the Chinese taste - that is, very spicy food, cooked quickly, with little or no sugar, and very authentic recipes. I first began going to the China Jade when Angel, the Taiwanese student who lived with us for 10 years, said it was excellent. My wife, family, and friends have been going now for over 10 years. Most of the time, most of the customers are Chinese. The owner and his family are the core of the staff at the restaurant. The owner is the main chef. Several of the staff don't speak very good English. I would not comment on their take-out service (read the reviews). I have never eaten off the American menu, which has egg foo young, chop suey, and other American dishes. But the Chinese menu is fabulous! Try their fire roasted shrimp, their stir fried green beans with pork crumble, their mapu tofu, their several fish bowls, their beef and port dishes, etc. etc. I have never had a dish that I didn't like. But they are mostly not too familiar to the American taste. In short, this little restaurant is an adventure worth experiencing.
Go for the food, not the atmosphere!

The menu clearly displays the restaurant delivers (even has coupons, valid with delivery only). Yet, I call to place an order and was told, "No delivery! You must come pick up!"
Not Happy.

I do some volunter work with Chinese students whom I often take to this restuarant. I continually hear from them that this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Denver, and the food tastes authentic. I don't think you can get a better recommendation then that, other than to say that I (an American born citizen who enjoys eating out) agree with them. The stir fried egg plant is my favorite! Most of the menu items are spicy.

Having just read a review that was highly critical of the food and service, I want to share my review. The location is very close to my work and home and is a perfect place to stop off for take out or dine-in their VERY nicely remodeled restaurant. Take-out and dine-in service is FAST, portions are LARGE, preparation is HEALTHY & TASTY - not swimming in sauce and vegetable are stir-fried crisp not over-cooked and limp. The place is always busy and many customers order from the Chinese menu. I still prefer the American menu, but my mouth waters at the many and various delicious looking entrees delivered to other diners. In summary, this strip-mall casual restaurant is certainly one to frequent.

This was the worst resturant ever!!!! First my co workers and called for a delivery, and the woman who answered sighed and sucked her teeth as though she did not want to take an order for a delivery. She kept saying order when you come in, order when you come in. I continued to ask do you deliver? She answers yes, so I proceed to try and order a delivery for the lunch special, she says to me again, order when you come in. WOW!!! So, I go in to order for the team, and as soon as I walk in, it's like I was a ghost from Xmas past?? WOW!! That is how you greet your customers?? No hello, how may I help you, nothing!! So, I say, I would like to order. The man up front continued to stare at me, like what are you doing in my resturant??!! So, finally he comes over to me and as I am ordering, he is not writing anything down?? WHAT?!? I still complete the order, just trying to give him some business, and I am trying to make light of the HORRID service, but the whole time, I am thinking hopefully the food is good, which will make up for all of this.. WRONG AGAIN!! The food was absolutely HORRID!!!!!! The rice was like cream of wheat, the meat had a foul order to it, and my stomach hurt so badly after eating there!! One of my WORST food experiences EVER!!

CONSUMER PLEASE BEWARE!!!! CHINA JADE SUCKS!!!

Top Notch Szechuan cuisine. The chef has been there for 20+ years and really knows his way around the Wok. The beef dishes are terrific as well as noodle dishes, veggies and seafood. The Egg Fu Yung is some of the best I've eaten.

this place is fantastic. the boiled fish slices are incredible. i normally wouldn't eat boiled fish but the stock this is stewed in is addicting. it's a different kind of spice that's not too hot but numbs the mouth. go there if you are an adventurous eater and you will not be let down.
