We try to get from Rochester Hills to Big Bear
Lodge to meet friends and enjoy the great food!
The bread is hot, salads are wonderful (esp. salmon salad) and we never pass on getting desserts! The upnorth atmosphere is fun and
unexpected by newcomers, especially kids!

I have eaten at the Big Bear on many occasions. The food is always delicious and the staff has always been friendly. The prices are less than you would expect from this caliber of restaurant. It has a northern Michigan motif that makes dining a truly unique experience. I feel comfortable bringing my friends, family, and office staff here for an incredible (and affordable) gastronomic experience.
It is also very "child friendly" with kids menus, and crayons for your little bear cubs. I have eaten at the best restaurants the Detroit metro has to offer, and I place Big Bear at the top of my list for restaurants between Detroit and Toledo.
The dessert menu is a must. I never leave without getting their scrumptious chocolate chip cookies. The beer menu is always impressive as well, if you like handcrafted IPA's, pilsners, and stouts.

A colleague and I went here today and was surprised at the terrible service we received. We ordered our prime rib rare, it came out medium/medium well. I asked the waiter if it was cooked rare and he said it was rare it just looked that way because of the au jus poured over it(A lie). We asked if this was the rarest cut they had and he went back and asked the chef, in fact it was the rarest cut available. We were offered to switch out our prime rib for a steak but we came there for the prime rib and decided to just eat the overcooked meat.
Having visited a week prior and having to leave(because the prime rib is not ready until 4:00pm) both of us was very irritated that the Prime RIb was not cooked to a good standard so we asked to see a manager. The manager came over and we asked why they only had medium well prime rib she replied " We did not sell enough prime rib yesterday so we reused the roast. But it was not cut into until today" so basically we ate overcooked leftovers, she did not offer any concessions at all and instead asked if we had anymore questions, we did not. After trying to get the house specialty twice, only to be disappointed when we finally get it really shows the customer service side of the restaurant. If you want good prime rib you should skip the Big Bear Lodge and go to Keirnans on Michigan Ave, you will get better service and a better meal.

We made reservations to eat inside this year because we froze on the outside deck last year. We were second on the reservation list. We brought our 85 year old parents. Cody was our waiter.John was the manager. when we got their they put us on the outside deck again. We told Cody we wanted to eat inside that we made reservations to eat inside. He left and came back and said he was sorry for the mix up and said the place would buy us a round of drinks while we waited. We said Ok but we still want to eat inside when the next table was cleared.. He said Okay. So we waited and waited then the manager John came out and said No you cannot eat inside. We asked why? we had reservations! We explained to him our parents are very old using walkers and they need to be inside. He said what do you want I bought you a round of drinks! He can shove his drink up his A#s for all I care. It's Thanksgiving. I might not get to have another one with my parents, He was just a jerk . So half our party got up and left, why eat here. When this place shove the old people with walkers on the back deck.I also am filling a complaint with the Fire marshal and with the American Disabilities for the violations in the Resturant. Cody was a good waiter and tried to make thing right. But John was a Jerk. So after some of use left their were 4 empty tables and they still would not move my parents in. I have never had such bad service in my life! I will also never go back to that place unless it's to protest out front for the service we received on the 09 thanksgiving
