Run don’t walk to this hidden little gem near the historic downtown district in Sebring. We walked into a quaint lovely house surrounded by old majestic oaks draped in Spanish Moss. Under new management, Twin Oaks has a homey, and peaceful ambiance. We felt as if we had walked into our grandmother’s home with the smell of great food lingering in the air.

Our server Celestine sat us in a large table, and gave us the menu. She suggested the Chicken Salad with walnuts, grapes and apples on their homemade bread. THE BEST CHICKEN SALAD I’VE EVER HAD. The macaroni salad was to die for. I ordered tea and was surprised to be presented with a tea caddy filled with at least ten different teas! The Chef, “B” came out to ask us how our meal was and to say hello, she also mentioned the brunch they were having the next day. Coming from Miami, I don’t recall the last time a Chef came out to ask me how my meal was.

On Sunday, my friend and I had starved ourselves all morning in anticipation for the brunch which included assorted muffins with butter to start, Gulf Shrimp, with yummy Grits, and NO LUMPS (so hard to find!!!) A great tasting hash brown casserole, quiche with Hollandaise sauce (great taste not too tart, not too lemony, just right). Delicious baked ham, and a French toast reminiscent of monkey bread with a gooey cinnamon caramel bottom! All this for a ridiculous $13.95. I think there was more, but frankly the portions were huge, and since I felt a food coma coming on, I couldn’t finish it all. I got a to-go box, and then ate it in the car on the drive to Miami. I have to tell you that the food was even better cold.

We took a tour of the house, and they have a little girls tearoom upstairs, which I would bring my granddaughter to, if I had a granddaughter! There’s a large outside screened dining area with ceiling fans. Perfect for tea and sandwiches on a lazy summer afternoon, or for dinner on one of those mild winter nights when the wind is blowing just right.

This is the kind of place that pulls you in and makes you want to linger, have another muffin, another sip of tea. It’s great that the owners make you feel like you’re part of the family, I’m going back as soon as I can, I suggest you go see the “Ladies” and sit back with a great sandwich, and a cup of tea. You’ll feel as if you just came home.
