I just had the MOST HORRIFIC EXPERIENCE at a little restaurant I used to love, Soup and Taco. As a Mary Washington student, I have frequented Soup and Taco many times through out the years and had grown quite fond of the place. I had even recommended the eatery to my roommates this past week and was excited to go downtown this Sunday to get something. I'm a huge fan of their cheese dip and decided to order that along with a Mandarin Jarrito. Once I received my to-go order I noticed that the cheese dip was in a smaller container (looked like a container a side of sour cream would be put in, perhaps only 10 chips worth of dip ) than I had remembered. I asked the nice lady who had been helping me if there was a larger container than that and she said no, at which point I decided that this wasn't what I was expecting for the price and asked if I could return it. The lady spoke to the chef and then to a man sitting out front who I assume is the owner. He came up to the register and I informed him about the situation. I asked him if I could return the drink as well (which was unopened) because I wasn't satisfied with my purchase. He told me that "I don't want business from people like you anyway". He told me that "We have a double order that's bigger". I opened the menu to double check and told him that no double order was listed on the menu. He said "People that order the cheese dip know about it". I told him that I had been there many times before, ordered the cheese dip and did not know about. He repeated to me that "i do not want YOUR business" and said sarcastically told me "Have a great day and good luck"
I walked out of their completely appalled at the way I had been treated. I will never step foot in that place again. That is the wrong way to treat customer. I've worked in a restaurant before and know what it's like. For someone to be so disrespectful to a customer is horrific. The whole time I remained calm and attempted to kindly convey my viewpoint to this man who was being nothing but rude to me. The product that I received was not what I had expected and I ASKED if I could return it. Instead of being offered this unadvertised double order, which I'm sure I would have gladly taken them up on, I was told that business was not wanted then the gentleman attempted to humiliate me by suggesting this was my fault because I ordered the wrong thing. After I told him I was not made aware of such an item, he again attempted to humiliate me and repeated he did not want MY business. This is not the way you handle customers nor is it a good business practice to insult customers. If they have such careless disregard from their customers, in a customer based industry, it makes you wonder about their other business practices! I would implore others to stay away from this place. There are much better restaurants in downtown with much better food and exponentially better management.
