Of course it is expensive! You are basically sitting right on top of the lake, with a great southern view of docks, boats and jet skis! What a treat!

I read in several reviews below that people are disappointed by a streamlined menu... But any serious food critic will tell you that a simple one-page menu allows better quality dishes and faster service.

I'm new to town and recently went in with my two young sons in tow. I was surprised to see the restaurant is NOT open for lunch! In the middle of August! Wow! It does not even open until 4:00pm!  Although this seems to be the norm for many restaurants in CDA, I was still disappointed. (NOTE: I later found out the restaurant is open early on Saturdays and Sundays).

Fortunately, it was 3:55, so I decided to wait around.  We were quickly seated, and service was excellent. The staff was kid-friendly, although the kid menu was your normal junk food type stuff. It seems that every waiter/waitress is a college student earning money for their education. I found the conversations to be pleasurable, entertaining, and stimulating. Also, having intelligent staff means no errors in your order.

They have this one drink called a Fishbowl, with pineapple and orange juice, and the menu says "this drink needs to be shared!" I thought, how big can it possibly be? I tried to order one, but my waitress seemed slightly awkward and uncomfortable about my order, so I inquired. By golly, the monster drink has SIX SHOTS of alcohol in it!

But remembering that the customer is always right, I requested a "half a Fishbowl." She brought me a full size carafe with a very big straw. This drink is delicious and refreshing on a hot August day, and I strongly recommend it (if you plan to share!)

I wanted to buy a souvenir Fishbowl glass (to put my Beta fish in, wouldn't that be cool?) but they don't sell them! I strongly recommend putting the company logo on the glasses and offering them for sale!

The menu was simple and friendly. I immediately decided on the weekly special "surf and turf," a sirloin steak covered in chunks of lobster, veggies, and a reduced cream sauce. The friendly waitress brought me a plate that looked like a mess, and presentation was disappointing. There was no color, and the sautéd veggies where limp and lifeless. The sauce was liquid and runny. Honestly, I was afraid to try it, but I decided I could not show fear in front of my two young and impressionable boys -- it might scar them for life -- so...

I cut into the steak, cooked perfectly to my specifications, added a large chunk of fresh, moist lobster, soaked it in the sauce, put on my bravest face, and WOW!  The flavor was fantastic!

While I wolfed it down, I noticed that there was just enough lobster to go with the steak. The veggies were pushed aside, except for the asparagus which was crisp and tasty.  Half way through my meal, the manager stopped by to see how I was faring.

Being the honest man I am, I held back no punches. Lifeless veggies, colorless presentation, and runny sauce. The manager took it all with great dignity and truly seemed to appreciate my comments -- he obviously cares about the quality of his food.  Apparently, this surf and turf was newly added to the menu -- his own personal creation -- and I had the dubious pleasure of tasting the very first order!

We discussed that presentation might have been better if I had not ordered it without potatoes, and with double asparagus, and I agree that I might have interfered with the intended presentation (but seriously a sprig of parsley might also have helped).

We discussed his delicious sauce recipe in detail (remaining confidential as promised) and we both agreed that the sauce SHOULD have been thickened. Regardless, the flavor was joyful.

Finally, the boys and I tried three different desserts. Huckleberry cobbler, vanilla sundae, and brownie delight. Presentation was excellent, and ingredients were simple and complimentary. The cobbler was my favorite, and obviously freshly made, right out of the oven.

Overall, four stars. I plan to return in the next week or two, and try the surf and turf again. I would like to see the restaurant open for lunch, and maybe even a mimosa brunch on Sunday (NOTE: I later found out they are!). I would really appreciate a healthy alternative to fish-n-chips on the kids menu.  I would like to be able to buy a fishbowl souvenir, and most important, thicker sauce and better presentation on the surf and turf.
