I am very disappointed with the Nob Hill establishment. I flew up to Iowa from Texas to help my best friend plan her wedding for next June (2012). She had already started by picking out the place that she wanted to have her reception, which was Nob Hill, and had spoken to Linda, the coordinator, asking Linda to pencil her in for the certain date she had always wanted to get married. Linda had given my friend prices and said she would be penciled in for her specific date however nothing was set in stone until a deposit was made. That is completely understandable.
When I got to Decorah, mere weeks after my friend had spoken to Linda, I decided to call as well so that I could see the establishment with my friend and her family, and so that we could put down the deposit. A meeting date was set and a few hours later Linda called my cell phone back to tell me she had nothing penciled in for my friend. She then told me another girl was interested in the same date and that if she had already mailed her check in, then we were out of luck. Not the worst part. I asked Linda if she remembered speaking with my friend and she said she had but this other girl gets the first option. Linda stated that it was first come first serve which is also understandable but if she didn't have the money from the other lady, why couldn't we come out and pay right then and there. She told us we couldn't do that. What upsets me the most is that she didn't even have the courtesy to call my friend and tell her that another person was interested in the same date and that if she wanted it, she would need to put a deposit down right then and there.
I was born and raised in Decorah and would expect this kind of treatment from a big city but not from Decorah or a place that has been a Decorah icon for so long. What's even worse yet is after speaking to my friends neighbors and explaining the situation, they said the same thing had happened to them at Nob Hill. Their daughter had already confirmed everything with Nob Hill and had called saying they were on the way out to drop off the deposit. They decided to have dinner there and when finished spoke to the lady to drop off the deposit. Needless to say, the lady informed them that someone had already paid a deposit not more then an hour earlier.
Big disappointment from Nob Hill.
