Hi! My name is Whitney. I have a severe speech impediment. Tonight, after I had my yearly review for my job, I met some girlfriends at landing house for dinner. I was so excited to have passed my yearly review and when I got to landing house I ordered a can of wine. The bartender, noticing my speech impediment, said she wasn’t comfortable serving me. I tried to explain that I was a regular, and the fact that I was planning on ordering food (in case she didn’t believe I wasn’t intoxicated) but she proceeded to only serve me water and not even ask me if I wanted to order food. This wasn’t okay and I felt belittled and small. I was ignored through the rest the transaction with my girlfriends. I would highly encourage the management to educate their staff on invisible disabilities and the fact that someone who has a speech impediment isn’t necessarily intoxicated.
