04/20/2012 - Emily A. Cox
My name is Emily A. Cox, and my father, Philip L. Cox, was the owner of this karaoke bar until he passed away in 2003 of a massive heart attack 2 months after his birthday. Supposedly my family "lost the will," and I was never put on paper as an "owner." My sister, Amy Cox, my brother, Eric Cox, and I were all supposed to be owners of this bar. I, for whatever reason, was not put on paper as an owner. I also was not compensated for being an "owner" in any way. I was paid $400 a month for about 3 months back in 2004 by my mother, Judy-Cox Downham (Wife of Jerry Downham), via a personal check and was told it was bar money and that I should continue receiving it, and I haven't seen a penny since.
I had been away in college in another state and completely forgot about the money, because I was still dealing with my father's death and too focused on my studies. I have asked my sister and brother why I haven't received any money and they both claim that the bar was "not making money" and has not "made money in years," which is why they haven't paid me a single cent.
I want to find out if this is true because I have a really hard time believing that the bar did not make any money in the 8 years I was away for college and living out East. It would be worth mentioning that for whatever reason my family has cut me off and refuses to speak with me. My family does not even invite me to my own niece and nephews birthdays or any family events. The minute I moved away for college to attend Indiana University in Bloomington is when all of this started, and it only got worse when I moved up to Burlington, Vermont to finish my degree.
I would like to be listed as an "owner" of this bar, as my father would have wanted, and to be compensated for the money that I never received - 8 years - no compensation.
