Yang Chow will delight any diner with it's fine cuisine, elegant atmosphere, and quality of service. The Yang Chow Restaurants, founded and owned by the Yun family, share the same name as the city where the five brothers (and partners) originally hail from. Largely a farming community, Yang Chow is close to the sprawling metropolis of Shanghai. The Yun family's excellence can be attributed to three successive generations in the restaurant business. Yang Chow has three locations throughout the greater Los Angeles area, the first of which is located right outside downtown Los Angeles in Chinatown. The doors opened in 1977 and it continues to be the most popular of the three. The San Fernando Valley is home of the second restaurant, which started serving the much raved about Slippery Shrimp to customers in the Valley in 1989, the Year of the Snake. This is the only location to have a full bar where diners can sip a vast assortment of drinks while they are waiting to be seated. Yang Chow's newest restaurant is located in Pasadena, which opened in 1996, the Year of the Rat. A bar with a variety of drinks is available to compliment patrons' orders of Slippery Shrimp or Spicy Szechuan Wontons.

Most of the dishes are flavorful, served hot, and in large portions. Do not order the MuShu Pork. They make it in advance in the kitchen, and bring it out already folded into a fairly cheap translucent casing. On a busy night you don't know how long it has been sitting in the kitchen; their excuse is that it is so popular that they are "forced" to do it this way. And it comes lukewarm. And if you don't like it, then it is not their fault. Their customer service is terrible. And don't order shrimp dishes; my husband & I gave it 3 tries, and we have no doubt that they use frozen not fresh shrimp: it is tasteless.
