Top Reviews of Mike's Steakhouse

Being a fan of "prime" beef, I often eat at fine steakhouses through out my travels in America and regularly shell out the big bucks to serve these cuts to my family at home. My father is a lifelong butcher and I have 20 years in the restaurant and hospitality business, including one very famous steakhouse in New Orleans. Now living in Houma I figured that I would try out Mikes steakhouse . Now it says "Prime Steaks" on the lighted sign outside, on the menu and our waitress assured us that the beef was indeed prime, it was certainly priced as such. I opted for the 12oz. ribeye ($29.95) with the potatoes au gratin as my side, my wife and teenaged daughter chose to have the 8 oz. ribeyes($19.95) with baked potatoes. The service was good but our waitress was obviously clueless as to what prime steak is. When our entrees arrived we were quite hungry and ready to eat. The first thing that caught our attention was the fact that my wife and daughters loaded baked potatoes were covered in a cheese sauce that was intended for nachos, and comes in a big #10 can , and fake bacon bits(!), is shredded cheddar too much to expect? My potatoes augratain seemed to be one of the other potato choices, one scoop of mashed potatoes, covered in the aforementioned goopy orange cheese sauce and fake(!!!) bacon bits. I can look past sub par sides as long as the steak made up for it, which it did not. Our steaks arrived on "hot plates" which are metal plates that sit in wooden carriers and are intended to be heated and keep the steak hot while you are eating it. Well I guess Mike did not read the instruction manual that came with his hot plates, because the kitchen forgot to heat the metal part of the hotplates at all. When you put hot meat on cold metal the meat immediately begins to get cold, which is how our steaks arrived at our table. The steaks were "garnished" with a piece of kale and one canned slice of simple syrup drenched peach . Upon looking at and cutting into my steak I began to have serious doubts as to the "prime" certification of the steaks. The first bite assured my suspicions. I would bet my bottom dollar that not only was the grade of this particular beef not prime, I would also say that it was not even "choice", I suspect that it was "select" at best. There was no marbling nor flavor at all to speak of. Except for the "au jus" which had all the flavor of a pack of a beef flavored ramen noodlet and was obviously just beef base and water. Needless to say my family and I were extremely disappointed in our meal, which none of us could finish, and even more so when we received our $120 bill (we all had iced tea). We left Mike's steakhouse on Tunnel Blvd feeling hungry and ripped off. The place is an obvious fraud and should be avoided like a plague. If they would lie about the grade of beef they serve and cut every imaginable corner, where else are they cutting corners and lying to their patrons...?

THE GOOD: Service was perfect

THE BAD: Expensive but was expecting that. My steak was a great value and cooked perfect but was bland as hell. Had 16oz Prime Rib (special was $1.00 an oz.). Wife had a 10 oz rib eye and it looked like the prettiest steak I ever saw... Tasted like a tough bland shoe sole. Her scallop potatoes was a scoop of mashed taters with bacon bits. My grilled asparagus was great, after adding salt. Also, $1.85 for a 10oz bottle of coke is a rip off.
