Cold, soggy pie. Cold, bitter coffee. Icky main course. Not Norwegian.

Food awful, service slow. Only restaurant that can ruin breakfast

Rude hostess! When she showed us to our table she didn’t even bother to set placemats and silverware. After less then satisfactory service I went to the front counter to pay. No one payed any attention to me although several people were walking around back by the kitchen. When the hostess finally took my card and asked if I wanted a copy of the receipt she pushed it under the glass and walked away with no thank you. I reminded her that although she didn’t say thank you for eating here I would say you’re welcome. Based on service and attitude of staff I give this place another month before it’s gone. Sad.

Take out order, person very rude at counter, not informative at all. Very disappointing for a small business.

Far cry from the original Osseo location.

Traveling through the area tonight with my mom and two children, saw the Norske Nook sign on the interstate, and decided we'd stop there instead of the Dells. Big mistake.

We've been to the Osseo location well over a dozen times in our lives so our expectations walking in were high. I have never had a bad experience in Osseo.

We pulled in to the parking lot and i immediately thought it was odd there wasn't that many cars parked. It was 6pm on a Friday night. Where is everyone? Well.... here's a list of some possibilities as to why it wasn't busy:

1. We were seated immediately but our waitress didn't show up to our table until 5 minutes later. There were maybe 6 other tables of customers and another waitress as well. NOT busy.
2. We ordered our food right away and drinks besides just water. My mom ordered a cup of coffee and kids each got a lemonade. Waitress brought water right away and said she'd be back with the rest. 15 MINUTES LATER she brings the coffee and lemonades. No explanation as to where she's been or anything to why it took so long. And no creamer for the coffee.
3. She brings the creamer about 5 minutes later.
4. Meanwhile I notice a few more tables fill up and a couple around us are done and gone. I notice the 2 tables next to us have plates that are still half full. People weren't satisfied with their meals or didn't have an appetite???
5. I look at my watch. It's now been nearly 30 minutes since we ordered our food. Here's what we ordered:
A. Grilled cheese sandwich with fries (kid #1).
B. Mini chocolate chip pancakes (kid #2)
C. Both my mother and I order the same pork roast sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy over it all. This is something that's already prepared, a special and regular menu item on any given day or night.
6. So explain to me how and why it takes 35 minutes to prepare and serve this order? There's maybe 6-7 tables full! It's not busy!
7. When we finally get the food, all of it is luke warm at best. But, we are all starving so down it goes. Nothing special about the food. Not like we ordered anything fancy but next to tasteless. But it wouldn't have mattered to say anything anyways. Our waitress didn't come over again until another 24 minutes goes by... yep by this time I was counting the minutes. Absolutely ridiculous service!
8. No question "how is everything?" No "Is there anything else I can get for you."
9. No coffee refill (which mom said was average at best)
10. No waters refilled
11. NOTHING
12. So we've now been there for about an hour and 15 minutes and the waitress finally comes over and asks us if we saved room for dessert. We order a couple slices of pie to go (at least the pie will be good right?) and ask for the check. There's no sense in calling her out or complaining at this point. It is what it is. Sh-tty service.
13. 5 minutes later and a $44 bill plus a $3 tip and we'll never stop there again.

On the way out we notice a sign "Help Wanted." Boy that's a loaded statement. Got a long way to go Norske Nook South as I will now call it.

New waitress, new cook, new management, new everything as far as I'm concerned. Why not just the waitress? Because it starts at the top. The manager on duty never came around to the tables. She wasn't too busy to do so. She just didn't notice or care to notice how terrible the service was. And the other waitress did nothing to pick up the slack even though she heard our comments about how long it was taking. Complete rookies all around.

This review does not do the proper justice of explaining how frustrating our experience was tonight. I probably should have said something right then and there but all i could think about was getting out of there and getting home.

Hey management, or better yet ownership... do yourself a favor and model this location after the Osseo store before it's too late. I highly doubt we're the only ones leaving there with this bad of a taste in our mouths.

And to think, we were just gonna go to Culver's.

Generally slow service. Very likely they didn't bake or are out of your 1st choice for pie. Food is at best average, but pies are very good.

great all around service and food

service was terrible. Our meal came faster than the pie. Server were sloppy looking and when we complained to management about the slow service and the need to have "a Pie Server" she was very rude. Maybe new management is needed and better trained servers!!

If you're looking for a generic, meat-and-mashed-potatoes restaurant, It's best to look elsewhere. But if you're looking for an imaginative menu and excellent food, This is a place to try.

Visited Nov 1, 2016 , had breakfast about 8:45 am, server was Renee. She is a good server. The food was very good and we bought a pie to go. The pie is great! We will go there again! We are planning on getting are Christmas pies there also. They have a large selection of fresh bakery items. This is not store bought bakery, it is the real thing! Yum!

PIE? What Pie? WHERE'S THE PIE???? 28.7 mile drive there, 28.7 mile drive back. Drove there specifically for strawberry pie, 1 p.m. - no strawberry pie, opted for fresh raspberry pie, no raspberry pie either, switched yet again to fresh blackberry pie, no blackberry pie either.

Understandable if berries were out of season. Berries ARE IN SEASON, they're plentiful in the grocery stores, on sale & this place that's supposedly known for pie - sadly has NO FRESH BERRY PIES available? Never made any today.

The only thing available closely related was a cooked blueberry pie with a thin layer of cream cheese. No FRESH BERRY PIE WHEN FRESH BERRIES ARE PLENTIFUL & IN SEASON. Waste of time & gas driving there. Big disappointment. Skipped the blueberry cream cheese too cause when you're craving "Fresh Berry Pie," cooked isn't the same.

Also there were super-slim picking in the bakery case, a death by chocolate, a butterscotch & some sort of coffee/mocha. Yikes - CALL if you plan to try it, otherwise chances are they may have slim pickings available. The only other time we visited, the whipped cream on top of the heath bar pie was "gummy/sticky" as in "old whipped cream" that's been left sitting too long. Not as in marshmallow topping. What happened to "Fresh Pies Daily?" The Norske Nook in Osseo was so good, this place was a huge let down.

The Norske Nook in DeForest is terrible! This was our 1st visit to a Norske Nook and we will never return! First of all we waited a very long time. Then when we were finally seated, we were very surprised to see so many vacant tables and seats! Beside the lefse, there wasn't much of anything that appeared Norwegian. The choice of food is very much like that of any restaurant chain. I can not believe the food is fresh and home made as advertised! My husband had the meatballs...served on bread? with thin watery potatoes that tasted like they came right from the box! His gravy tasted like flour and was so cold that it wiggled! I had Eggs Benedict. The ham was full of gristle and the entire meal was so cold that the hollandaise sauce had congealed. This place is nothing more than a Scandinavian decorated bad place to eat! I am Norwegian and this is an insult to my heritage!

We tried dinner twice and service friendly but very s!ow. Food was awlful! Our son home for Christmas and we decided no one could screw up breakfast. Wrong! We all ordered dry toast and sopping with butter and cold. Son ordered hash browns crispy but came not crispy. Omelot special was OK but rest of meal was basically uneatable. Pie looks good but have not tried. Others in neighborhood have all said the food is bad but Haywood location is much better with excellent food.
