Don't believe the bad reviews. Of course, if you're visiting during the peak of tourist season, there will be lines out the door--gee, I wonder why...maybe good food, good service??? I am a local and I eat at the Salt Bay Café once a week, often ordering something different from the menu but sometimes ordering the one of my favorites--the Caesar salad; with one exception over the past three years, the food has been wonderfully prepared and so tasty that I could not help but finish even with the big portions. It is the only place I have ever eaten (and I travel outside of Maine and outside of the US frequently) that has such an extensive vegetarian menu in addition to the ample selection of non-vegetarian items. The chef is always trying new things and the deserts are to die for! The staff is friendly and prompt despite how busy the place gets--obviously, when there is a line out the door and the place is packed, there might be a bit of a wait. So, kudos to the hard-working and friendly staff at the Salt Bay Café--I'll see you next week!

Great menu selection from carnivores to vegetarian. Nice portions, service is pronto & friendly. Delicious homemade desserts. Cozy with a cute woodstove! We are locals & go about once a month. Love it & recommend it! :-)

I live in Damariscotta and stop in the restaurant frequently. The prices are good, the food is good and the servers are cheerful and attentive.
I never write reviews but the other comments on menupix caused me to do a doubletake. I couldn't believe we were talking about the same restaurant.
Soups are great, salads and steaks are great. I don't care for the comfort meal though, the meatloaf and mac and cheese.

I would advise anyone against eating here. Food is over priced, portions are small. Waitstaff is unfriendly & harried, chefs constantly yelling & argueing in the kitchen. Food reheated 2-3 times before serving, fancy menu but discusting food, dish washers treated horribly, poor seating, overcrowded, & wait times in excess of an hour or two. Do yourself a favor and go to another local resteraunt!
