Very good service, excellent food.

By far the best restaurant north of Saginaw on Lake Huron side of state. Varied menu, high quality and varied menu. Well worth the stop.

New owners? Bad service, long wait times & way overpriced for tiny portions. If changes aren’t made soon they’ll be looking for another buyer? Sad. It’s a cool building inside.

If I'm ever on death row and ordering my last meal, I will ask for the poached salmon with dill sauce from Northwoods. IT'S TO DIE FOR! (pun intended).

Last night we ate at the Northwoods around 8:15. It was crowded. Our group had 8 people. I ordered the prime rib. Excellent! One of the members of our group couldn't get that item because it was no longer available. I asked our server, who was quite good, how many orders of prime rib were served that evening, and she said probably over 70 orders.

Hey, this is a great restaurant in a very small community; I like it better than most of ours in Port Clinton,OH. I was visiting my cousin and went to the Northwoods. Man, the steaks are super. I also liked all of the nature surroundings.

Being from Charleston, SC, where foodies abound, it is so nice to find Northwoods Steakhouse and its offerings of very good local fare..not to mention how delicious the pickerel is and the perfect midwestern beef! I am able to enjoy E Tawas about two times a year and dine at the Northwoods Steakhouse every time. The service is attentive and thoughtful with menu item selections. The wine list is great and the bar is well stocked. I particulary like that I can enjoy the dinner conversation with my guests; so many restaurants are just too noisy! The atmosphere is lovely and the decor so "up north". thanks to all who make this restaurant a local treasure.

We had 8 guest and arrived to find a party of 6 was ahead of us and very unhappy. The party of 6 finally left when the host refused to seat them and was rude. There were 4 booths open and two table open along with tables in bar area. The host had told me it would be 20 minute wait. I asked if possible to join the two tables. Her response was I TOLD YOU 20 MINUTES AND YOU'LL WAIT 20 MINUTES. We immediately left.

Food was average at best and service was terrible. The restaurant was 3/4 empty and it still took over 1 hour to get our food. At the end of the night, the manager did not even have the courtesy to come and apologize and the waitress only offered dessert as compensation. We did not want to stay any longer so just paid and left.

Been here three times: First time was pretty good, and we thought that Tawas was getting something good, second time was fair at best, and this time was just plain poor. With little crowd it took 20 minutes to get our drinks, even though we ordered our appetizer with our drinks the order wasn't placed until after our drinks came. Then we just had to wait. Everything else was slow, my baked potato was cold, the caper mustard sauce wasn't a sauce at all, just plain Dijon mustard with a few capers stirred in.
When owner came over to ask about our dinner we explained the above, and said we wouldn't be back any time soon. He got defensive and offered nothing.
Looks like Tawas still needs a good restaurant, go to Oscoda for Tait's or West Branch for the Willow Tree.

Hit and miss. One night good another night horrible. No consistency. If they would offer a fresh vegetable other than the frozen spinach casserole that comes with every plate it would be a huge step in the right direction. Steaks usually come out overdone so order accordingly. Rear of house is the issue here. Front of house does their best. Filet Mignon is the best bet. Tawas doesn't have much to choose from in upscale eating so here we are.

A terrible experience - poor wait staff, slow service, and they brought the wrong food. NOT recommended.

We had an average experience the first time we went. Gave it another shot because we like the decor. The second time my husband's fish was over cooked and bland. He sent it back and ordered something else. His second meal was delivered by the owner, who didn't say anything, just put the plate down and left. When we got the bill he was charged for both meals. The owner came by and said he was wrong about the fish, that it was fine, so he was being charged for it.
We won't go back and can't recommend it. Try Crystal Bay in Tawas City instead. Delicious food, fair prices, professional service.
