The soup served at the humble Marketplace Cafe is profoundly delicious. No matter what kind of soup I choose, what time of day I arrive, what mood I am in, or what season is underway, this soup is delectable. Its flavor is so distinct, it is thought-provoking: where does this ambrosial tastiness come from? Is it factory-made, with loads of chemical additives perfectly balanced to fool the palate into believing, if only for a moment, that split peas could possibly taste so good? Or is it for real? Fearing that the truth could only disappoint me, I am happy to die wondering what the secret is behind this outstanding soup. Vive Marketplace Cafe.

Marketplace Cafe has been around for 20 years. It's a great place for lunch. Soups are amazing, 6 or 7 different kinds every day, turkey with wild rice tops the list of favorites. They bake their own cookies, rolls, and coffee cakes. Their pumpkind bread and cornbread are baked in an iron skillet. Coffee's always fresh. Prices are a good value for what you get, quality ingredients and generous portions. Can get pretty busy but service is fast, and they don't mind adjusting the orders for different diets. And sitting at the tables in the hallway at Thornes is an entertaining place to eat, with all the people coming through from the parking garage to the street.
