08/11/2009 - Not Alton Brown
Good Eats was started over 35 years ago. They served southern country breakfast and sandwiches and salads for lunch. About 10 years ago a new owner took over and cleaned up the place and expanded the lunch menu.
The menu for breakfast remained true to the qriginal intended southern country theme. The draw was hand made in-house biscuits. The biscuits could stand alone or be stuffed with any item on the menu; country sausage, bacon, ham, steak, fried chicken and eggs and cheese.
They had full breakfast plates (sausage, bacon, ham, steak, chicken), pancakes, breakfast sandwiches. All pretty much made to order. If you think the "flying biscuit" is a real biscuit, you have never had a true southern biscuit.
The lunch menu evolved into a combination of hot plate lunches (meat and two sides) .They usually had at least 5 or 6 meat choices; meatloaf, fried or grilled chicken, beef stew, fish and country fried steak. More than a dozen vegetables choices helped round out fantastic spread for lunch. The menu also included grand size burgers, cheese steaks, chicken sandwiches, bbq sandwiches, as well as in-house made chicken, tuna, and egg salad sandwiches. Deli sliced ham, turkey, roast beef piled high with fresh lettuce and tomatoes were available.
Over all you could eat there every day and have something different and very satisfying for a very reasonable price.
That owner sold the business and it has never been the same, the new owners never put the effort into the work and most of all the love that is required to put out good food in a good atmosphere.
If you ever had the chance to eat there between 1998 and 2002 ;you know what I mean.
Good Eats never duplicated.
