Its been so long since they closed but for people wondering, the person who created the Iron Gate Inn has passed. Thank you for all the journeys.

My husband and I go here at least once a month for years, and we have NEVER been disappointed. Everyone treats you like they have known you forever. Yes, it does not look like much on the outside, and it has no atmosphere, but I don't care about that, I am paying for good food and service, and that is what we always get. The prime rib is to die for, and the seafood is always fresh and outstanding. If anyone has any complaints, then there is something wrong with them!!!!!!!!

This is my grandfather's restaurant. I grow up in there since before I could walk. When I still walk in there stopping by to visit I always find the same people seating at the same table, at the same time, eating the same thing, as they have for years and years. I love the food there and the seafood we get in every afternoon. The people who who the fresh seafood and other fresh local produce is the same people since years ago. We also get produce from Papens Farms which the other side of my family owns and runs. I eat at the restaurant whenever I am in town, great to see my family, friends of family, and all the customers who tell me every time "I remember when you were this little". Ive went to the restaurant for very high school homecoming and prom. FOOD IS ALWAYS AMAZING AND FRESH. Yes sometimes the service isn't so great, but they are great people and have been working at the restaurant since before I was born over 20 years ago. Yes the decor definitely needs some updating but that's not what my grandfather is worried about, keeping his customers who have been coming for years satisfied and the great food coming out.

Thank you so much for all those to support and love the food and the restaurant. Keep enjoying

And to those who haven't had much great experiences I am sorry.

Merry Christmas from my family to yours.

Bethany Le Beau

After seeing the ad in the Dover Post we decided to check it out Saturday. The hostess was very unpleasant when we entered like we were intruding. During our dinner an argument broke out between two waitresses which then back into the kitchen where we then heard profane language and swearing. The hostess told the one waitress she shouldn't talk to her mother like that.We did not have an enjoyable evening and we will not be back.

Horrible Service!!! Stay away!!!! Every time we have gone they have screwed up our order. The food is not worth the money either.

This was an amazing dinner, the service was excellent, the drinks we're stiff, and the food was amazing. I have driven by this place for two years before stopping in and trying it. If your looking for a high class exterior and fine china, this is not for you. But if your looking for the best prime rim you have ever had, this is for you. My wife had a Delmonico and said it was the best stake she has ever had, "which hurt, because I thought I made the best stake" but I had some and it was amazing. All I can finish with is you have to try it to believe it. Thanks Jimmy...

Have been going there for quite a while. The prime rib is the best we have ever had. Two weeks in a row I had the Delmonico and it was melt in your mouth good. Took friends who got seafood, crab imperial, stuffed flounder, and flounder fillet. Everyone raved at how good the food was. The prices are not bad for the quality. See you there.

I have been going to this restaurant since I was a little girl for at least 20 years, the decor has not changed. If you are looking for a place with a fancy exterior and equally pleasant interior this isn't the place for you. If you are looking for extremely delicious food this is def. the place for you! Their prime rib is to die for, their soups and seafood are also very delicious. My family LOVES the iron gate, I hope to pass the tradition on to my children :)

Outside needs a little work, as does the inside but the beef is some of the best I have ever had, prime rib is over the top on the weekends. My favorite is the king file Diane, great food, big drinks, nice folks.

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary last evening. We went back to the Iron Gate. This is the same restaurant we ate at on our honeymoon ten years ago. It was nice to know it has the same owner and pretty much the same staff for all these years. We had prime rib and shrimp among other things. It was scrumptious. The food is even better than 10 years ago. The staff was very professional. We didnt even have reservations and had no problem getting a table. It has been remodeled and is very cozy and inviting. The prices are great for the quality of food you receive and we had plenty to bring home for later as well. We eat at many restaurants from Maine to Virginia and I must say this is one of the best. We will definately be making this a regular place to eat. I am so glad we have moved back to Delaware.

Absolutely terrible from driving to it. Outside is dreary, no winows, inside very dark - hard to adjust eyes but all of that is the easy part. I had called for reservations, asked many questions including do they have vegetarian options - "Absolutely yes, the chef can make anything you'd like." Upon sitting down menu with very exorbitant prices for the atmosphere they created. First clue to a problem: the cream for coffee was like cream cheese. No vegetarian food on menu. Asked waitress: "We can put 3 vegetables on a plate". I explained we had called ahead, chef could cook, etc. She said" How about chicken?" No....thats not vegetarian; "How about shrimp?" No....thats not vegetarian either. Then she got other people involved saying she doesn't eat meat. Very embarrassing. When I mentioned the cream, she said" Oh I'll just get some more". We left money on the table for beverages and walked out. We do not recommend this place - Olive Garden there we went!

My husband and I went to the Iron Gate for Dinner to get out of the house. We went on a Friday night, and we didnt have reservations which we thought would be ok because it was early. Well once we got there we was greated my the hostess who isnt' to friendly. You would think that a place like that would have someone who has a good personality and is customer service friendly. Anyways as we went to our table, now reminder we havent even sat down our waitrress came over and asked us if we would like a drink. We both ordered due to we had a time limit. Our food was food we have no complaints there. But our waitress we had she was the worse i have seen and i have been around for a long time. She was yelling across the Resteraunt, and kissing all over customers. Not only that she was at the bar arguing with the hostess. I think and this is my opion but if your going to have a business like that i think that the owner needs to see what is going on in the dinning room. I havent been back since, and I dont know if my husband and I are going to go back. I recommend reservations due to the hostess attitude.
Thanks
Mrs. Harris

Everything started out well our waitress was good. Then we received the food I got fried flounder it was a big piece of fish but was awful I forced down half and couldnt stomach anymore. The rest of the familys food was ok. Then I started to hear raised voices coming from the kitchen and then swearing then I could here someone getting hit in the face.. all the time my whole family could here all of this, the cursing, the blow to the waitresses face and all. My three children could hear this too. I was upset I complained and needless to say they blew my family off.
