I hosted a group of six for breakfast at Althea's last Sunday. The food was fine and our service was adequate. It states on their menu that the establishment will add an 18% gratuity to the bill for five or more. I thought this was an OK practice and have seen it in other places. So, when the bill came, I paid and we left. We were not even a few feet from the door when either the manager or the owner came out and grabbed two of my guests and told them I hadn't given a tip to our waiter. They explained that we thought they had taken care of it since it was clearly written on their menus. She got quite irate and told us that was only done at the discretion of the manager or cashier -- not what it had said anywhere.else. She got louder and started waving her arms and shouting about it. There were a few people sitting on the benches in the front of the restaurant waiting for tables and, so, witnessed this treatment. The woman, who presented herself in horrible wrinkled shorts and so did not represent that restaurant well in the first place, finally stopped yelling and went back into the restaurant. Several of the people waiting for tables got up and went to their cars. My group was appalled and I'll tell you none of them will be back. With more than 200 places to choose from to eat in Venice, I'm sure we can get treated better anywhere else.

although living in Venice for over 8 years,I have never eaten in Althea's.My wife and I and our friends were very pleased at the quality and size of our dinners.Three of us ordered the pot roast and one ordered the prime ribs.We were very satisfied and will go back again soon and recommend the restaurant to others.

Excellent pasta and marinara. Veal piccata is also wonderfully done. Enjoy!

We always eat at Althea's when visiting Venice. The food is fantastic and service has always been good. The owner and staff are friendly. The Greek Pasta is delicious. I recommend Althea's enthusiastically.

first time we went for dinner , i found a long hair in the salad, and one of the kitchen staff did not wash his hands in the restroom,
I ordered a salad with croutons, anchovies and cheese and their special dressing.according to their menu.
when the salad came , there was no anchovies , so we asked the waitress , she went to ask her manager, she said the anchovies was in the dressing !!!!! I went inside and spoke to the manager, who was rude and impolite and did not give the anchovies...which were clearly printed on the menu.
stay away from this restaurant.

I went to the Venice Class reunion. What a joke! Beers at $4 a piece. They were not even that cold. I ate breakfast there Sunday morning and I overheard the owner bragging to people that missed the boozefest that he supplied 6 delicious appetizers that nobody ate. They had to throw them out. He is a liar!!!! My wife and I saw only one appetizer. It was tortilla chips and salsa. The salsa was presented in a gallon size plastic food prep tub with the chips scattered around the salsa. No wonder no one ate it, it was disgusting looking. Total disappointment!!!!

The owner of this restaurant should be ashamed of himself.

Being a Venice resident, I would never step foot in this establishment. A 75+ year old oak tree was cut down because it was in the way of a vulgar expansion of the business and it was "dropping leaves" on his car.

The live(barely) parrot in a too small of a cage is ignored and left outside during open hours regardless of weather. He is shoved off to the side of the outdoor patio along with extra chairs. During rain/lightening storms, this bird is still outside (in a medal cage) with an umbrella sticking thru the cage. Little food and water is supplied throughout the day. Locals come to check on this bird and feed him daily.

A long time vendor on Miami Avenue, this owner is allowed to get away with too much.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!

Great polite staff. Food is super. Veal chicken and fish dishes out of this world. . If you want a great meal at reasonable prices this is the place. Two for one drinks are a little on the small side.

Don't bother. We were told by locals to give this place a pass, but decided to try the early bird menu. We arrived at 6, were seated at 6:20, placed our early bird orders, sent back several drinks which were made incorrectly, ate food that was average at best (overcooked seafood, tough and chewy puff pastry, tepid and overcooked baked potato) and were presented with a bill for the FULL PRICE for our entrees. When we politely protested that we should have been given the early bird prices, we were treated with rudeness and scorn, and informed that the waitress hadn't put our order in until 6:45, so we were out of luck. We will not go back and do not recommend.
