The low ratings here don't reflect the incredible experience I had. The seafood linguine was superb, and the friendly, attentive service made our visit even more enjoyable. With an extensive menu and beautiful views of the Connecticut River, this restaurant is a hidden treasure worth discovering.

Went to River for the first time a few months back and everything was fantastic. I had the Arancini as an app with a Lavender Lemonade, and it was very colorful. The service was friendly and attentive, without being invasive. Great food and service and you can't beat that view.

Four of us dined there for lunch on February 9,2019. Some good, and some not so good feelings about our experience. The setting is lovely on the river, but I thought that the interior doesn't have a homey feeling.....nothing on the walls, nor on the tables, such as a simple flower arrangement. But, I digress.....let's get to the food. As it was a brisk windy day, I decided on soup and a spinach salad. The soup.....a sausage and kale was good, however the portion was questionable. I opted for a bowl, and was served a square plate with a very small "well" in the center. The amount of soup might have filled a cup, but this was certainly no bowl. We had two servers for our table, and one of them also thought it was a cup size. When I received the bill, the price for the soup was $9.00....didn't even include bread or crackers!!! Interestingly enough, on the menu next to the soup it stated MP for it. Guess I should have asked. Also, wonder what size the cup is??? One staff member jokingly said, the size of a shot glass. Two of my friends had the personal sized pizzas, which were good and a sizeable portion. Another had a turkey sandwich, which she liked. My spinach salad was tasty....loved the dressing. One of the others had coffee for her beverage.....$3.00......she asked for a second cup.....another $3.00.....no complimentary refills here!!! A little disappointing. We all agreed that we wouldn't rush back, although it's not entirely out of the question...., especially on a beautiful Spring or Summer day, when one can sit outdoors. I'll just remember to ask more questions about the menu selections, or perhaps just settle for a beverage!!!!

Terrible service, the waiter was polite ,but no experience, just a good kid., after we did the food's orders (6 people) the waiter back with the news: nothing was available, no explanation.
Most the food in the menu was not available
The place was total empty, no excuses for the kitchen. Of course the Manager was not available too!!

Have gone a couple of times. In nice weather, the outside seating is enjoyable. Service is decent. Personally think it's overpriced for the quality. A few of the items on the menu were not available and we were not made aware until after we placed our order. Had to ask the waitstaff for utensils and condiments because they were not made available to us.

I have been to River a few times. Love sitting outside looking at the view. Service is okay, food pretty good. Today brought a friend there. She ordered a BLT. It was delivered to her without the tomatoes. When she told the waiter about it he went to get the tomatoes. After quite a long wait he came back saying they were out of large tomatoes and gave her a plate of small cherry ones cut in half. Why would the chef send out a sandwich knowing that and send out those tomatoes? No compensation offered either. :(
