03/25/2009 - Holy Guacamole!
Listen up! This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in the area! I went to Tortuga's Cocina for the first time since the restaurant changed owners. I was skeptical after reading all of the on-line reviews that said how wonderful this place was. Well, they all seem to be right. The owner is very friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is superb! I was blown away by the fresh salsa and guacamole. The first time I went, I had the carne asada and my wife, who is a vegetarian, had a burrito (I believe a Sante Fe? burrito). We enjoyed it so much we went back four days later. I had an appetizer. I forgot the name of it, but is was full of Mexican cheeses and chorizo. It was a bit rich, but it was amazing. I wouldn't call the menu 100 % authentic Mexican. But the nightly specials seem to be heading in that direction. The tres leches? cake was the best I have had. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants a great meal at a very good value.
