When you use the highest quality ingredients, you get the highest quality products. When you hand build a Ferrari, an assembly built Yugo suddenly seems lacking.
And that's not a knock on Yugo.
But with the vast meats and authentic Italian specialties that Lajo's offers, they also have a magnificent selection of lunches and dinners to go that are prepared before your very eyes.
Amongst these offerings are a huge jalapeno hot dog, sloppy joe sandwich, big john meatball & sausage sandwich and other great items.
The difference is that the ingredients and care taken to prepare these "to go" foods is second to none.
Yes you can buy from a fast food restaurant, but there is NO comparison when it comes to the pure taste, heft and classic Italian authenticity in these foods.
The sloppy joe I had one day was extraordinary. I mean the weight, grain and taste of the meat, sauce & spices was incomparable to any other sloppy joe I have ever eaten.
The 7 inch jalapeno hot dog, with chili was hands down the best hot dog in the city. Again the texture of the chili sauce and the size and quality of the hot dog was like something you would expect to find in Europe.
They also offer a really good to go hoagie in Italian, ham and turkey configuration.
Sure there are other places, but Lajo's is a place that belongs among the cities exclusive concourse of the authentic ethnic excellencies.
