After enduring a lengthy traffic delay, my group stopped at this eatery for a quick refueling break. We tried their cheese pizza and were pleasantly surprised to receive an extra one for free, which tasted delicious. The service was friendly, the establishment was clean, and the overall experience left us satisfied.

If I had written this review even a year or so ago, it would have been five stars. I used to drive to Jasper from Chattanooga several times a year just to eat at Raphael's - they had the best Italian food I've had in a restaurant since I left NYC (apart from my own homemade, of course). I'm sorry to say, things have changed, and not for the better. A couple of months ago, I went to Raphael's and had a meatball sub; it was so-so, but not enough to turn me off to one of my favorite restaurants; after all, even the best cooks have an occasional "off" day. The next time I went, I tried the pizza burger: the meat was overcooked, try, and tasteless, the cheese was just placed on top, not melted, and the sauce was very stingy. OK, one more try - I went there earlier today and had the chicken Parmesan, which I've had before and which was always very good.

I went into the restaurant, and waited to be served. Just as I was about to get up and leave, someone came over and said she thought the other waitress had taken care of me. I placed my order, and looked forward to my meal.

All I can say is - this was the LAST time I've eaten at Raphael's! Instead of a chicken breast, I was served several dried out chicken tenders. The spaghetti was overcooked, and it was all covered in - would you believe - MEAT sauce! To top it all off, the chicken tasted as if it had been fried in bacon grease; there was definitely a "meaty" taste to the coating.

I don't remember ever before having a meal that was so bad I couldn't wait to go and find something else to eat to take the taste out of my mouth.

Never again!
