I am shocked at the review I just read. Happy Garden is simply the best Chinese food and Sushi I have had! I have moved to the Morristown area and miss Happy Garden. The delivery was always prompt and the food was always fresh and delicious. I am on the search for something local that is comparable but sadly have had no success. Happy Garden spoiled me!

I have never left a review, good or bad, for a restaurant before but i am compelled to warn anyone who will listen as to the sub par food and awful service of this restaurant. To be clear, i am speaking of the Happy Garden chinese restaurant in Parlin/Sayreville New Jersey. I live in Sayreville and have been at this restaurant for take out 3 times. Each time, when I place my order over the phone they would tell me 'ok, it'll be ready in 20 minutes'. OK, fair enough. When I show up at the restaurant 20 minutes later, the food would not be ready and they would keep me sitting, waiting for an additional 20 to 30 minutes. I kid you not. And the sit down part of the restaurant is completely empty. dead. it's not like they're busy serving other patrons who sit down to eat there. The first time this happened, i figured maybe there was a problem in the kitchen or something and my food just took longer to make. OK. The next time I went, same thing. They kept me waiting. I was bothered that this happened again but thought to my self this can't be how it always is, because if it was they would not be in business anymore. So I let it go. The third time, just last nite, I called an order in and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes. I got there 20 minutes later and waited 25 minutes for my food to come out which didn't even come out until i told the girl at the front that i had been waiting for 45 minutes already. For a stinkin take out order. And there were 3 other people waiting there with me for just as long. Beyond unacceptable at this point. I gave them a fair chance and they failed every time. And the food is not even that good, there are other better chinese restaurants in Parlin/Sayreville that I can and will go to. Like Chinese Delight or Lam's Garden, both on Main Street. When I got home, 45-50 minutes after waiting this last time, my wife was on the phone with the restaurant, furious with the the person on the other end who's name was Albert. This marble mouthed buffoon, Albert offered no recourse or resolution or apology for wasting our time. He lied and said that we just had a really bad rush of customers which, having just come from the restaurant was obviously not true. He also said that if we wanted our food in 20 minutes, we should have ordered at around 5pm, which was generally slower at the restaurant. He actually said that. Then he told my wife that he was sorry, but he worked 6 days a week and he was very busy. Honest to God, he said these things. I think what made me the angriest out of the whole situation was the restaurant's reaction to us when we called in to complain. I can deal with not so great chinese food. Some places aren't the best. I can deal with having to wait as long as i did (i just will never order from them again), but I cannot deal with management that allows for all this and is of no help whatsoever, almost confrontational. Like I said at the beginning, I have never left a review of a restaurant before until now. I want to make my voice heard. Avoid the sub-par food. Avoid the terrible service. Avoid the marble mouthed staff. Avoid Happy Garden in Parlin/Sayreville, New Jersey.
