I went to Avenue East with friends last night. I an allergic to wheat / gluten so always bring a slice of gluten free bread or some crackers with me when eating out. Even if a restaurant offers GF meals, they never offer GF bread or breadsticks. I was asked by the manager to put my baggie of crackers away because it is a restaurant and you can't bring your own food. I explained that they were GF because I had allergies. He didn't care. I have to say, with all the restaurants I have been to, this was the first time this has ever happened.
We all ordered entrees and appetizers, so it is not like we were ordering less food because I was snacking on a few crackers.
It is a BYOB place and they have no problem with people bringing wine even though they do offer other beverages on the menu, but he has a problem with my crackers.
I thought the experience was very rude and inconsiderate towards someone with food allergies.
