The Sportsman as of 2013 is under new ownership tons of improvement inside and out .Wonderful food great atmosphere . Killer green chili burgers.. you should really stop by and meet the two sisters that run the place ... five stars ladies keep it up!!!!!!!!

For years, The Sportsman has been a great place for flyfishers to enjoy a meal and cold beverage after a long day of catching trout on the Quality Water. It is great to see the place open again; The experience on the San Juan was just not the same without the delicious treat of a green chile cheeseburger at the end of the day! However, for some reason The Sportsman does not stay open past 9PM, which means that anyone who chooses to experience the great evening fishing cannot get to the restaurant before the doors close. A buddy and I fished a weekend in mid June this year, and tried unsuccessfully both Friday and Saturday evenings to spend our supper dollars at The Sportsman. The days are long in June so we arrived a few minutes after the doors were closed and, while we were there, 4-5 other groups of people also stopped in hopes of getting supper and a cold beverage. Opportunity lost for The Sportsman; Perhaps on the weekends it might be worth staying open until 10:30 or so??

We appreciate the loyalty of our past customers and are diligently trying to win your hearts and stomachs back. To set all the rumors straight...There has NOT been a change in ownership at this point. The Sportsman is under new management with exciting changes to follow in the future.

After meeting the new owner Crystal and trying out a bite to eat I know they stole my mother and planted her in the kitchen. With the hospitality and friendly service you will not be disappointed. I miss mamma's goodies and who ever is in that kitchen is amazing. I look forward to taking a business trip back next time I may bring the company employees to share in the great spirits and amazing food!

The rumors around our community are that they are working on making some big changes at the Sportsman and bringing back the great food and friendly service that everyone is used to from years past.

Once up on a time I visited the san jaun and the sportsman quite frequently, at this time a man named bill ran the place,I often wonder about him and if he still ran it. Not only was this a wonderful place, he made everyone fill welcome and he knew no strangers and was alway happy to see you. I'm sure after reading all the reviews on the place now that he is no longer the owner. I became very good friends with bill and really hate that i lost touch with him, but not only at this time was the food great and the service always came with a smile it was a place where many memories were made and also usually left wrote on a dollar bill stapled to the wall, and you couldn't wait to get back to one more time so you could hear one more story from bill! I miss bill and the sportsman. It was a place that im very thankful i got to visit in my life time. "The year of the muddy waters" that was the last dollar bill i left there.

Wonderful! New owners! Lower Prices! Better food! I couldn't have been any happier with the service. The owner is so nice. He makes you feel like family. He also has a beautiful Lodge that we stayed at. No more staying at Abe's.

What a great atmosphere. Good place to visit after fishing all day. Food is hit or miss. Great place to unwind and tell a few lies while enjoying a few libations. Prices are a little high, but the overall ambiance more than makes up for it. If you get a chance to fish the San Juan River make sure you stop by the Sportsman's.

To add to the bad service and food, I got food poisoning. We were trying to make it easy on ourselves by eating out close to home while preparing to go on vacation. I got so sick I wanted to cancel my trip. Cost to much to change or cancel so flew to Mexico much like you expect to come back from Mexico from drinking the water. To make matters worse, New Mexico had just passed the no smoking law in restaurants and everyone there was smoking.

The people were rude not friendly at all it was like the twilight zone very strange. What has happen good kind service is gone...The food was awful could not even get a good breakfast burrito raw beacon really gross made me sick and very expensive we were very unhappy. Abe's Fly Shop up the road is even worse a rip off.
