What a pleasant surprise to find a quality Japanese Sushi Restaurant located right next to Mooyah's in Metairie.
Upstairs, (stairs or ADA Compliant elevator) is what you would expect of a quality Japanese restaurant, with some thoughtful touches thrown in for the sports fans.
Flat screens are plentiful at the tended bar, and a larger TV covers most of the dining area. Please note that the TV’s do not distract from your dining experience.
Diawa’s massive Pictorial Menu is a real treat you can sink your eyes into. It’s a picture-perfect introduction for youngsters and for all those first timers starting to delve into the delicious world of great Japanese food. And for we Sushi Savvy, I find it a nice touch.
The food, both cooked and raw are of the highest quality, and the quality to value is off the chart.
The excellent Squid Salad is portioned for two but is priced for one. Scallop dishes are amazing. Any dish with BBQ Eel is first rate.
Daiwa’s savory Baked Salmon with snow crab and eel sauce, and the Daiwa Special Scallop (Chopped cooked Scallops mixed w/Smelt Roe, topped w/Crab Stick, Avocado, and Champagne Sauce) are dishes you will instantly regret sharing. Regret because they will instantly disappear into the insides of your guest.
As for the Sushi, darn if Diawa didn’t get that right, and right out of the gate. Rice, small grain sticky rice cooked to perfection is the one ingredient that can make mediocre sushi, great tasting. But when you have exceptionally good ingredients combined with excellent rice to make sushi, you land in Daiwa sushi heaven. It’s that good.
