This neighborhood bar/restaurant has it all—a welcoming atmosphere set by owner John Watson and his excellent staff, fun regulars at the bar, candlelit dining tables on the porch overlooking the brook, top notch food, a popular trivia night on Thursdays, and at least one resident ghost!
My husband and I moved to Putnam Valley in June, and Watson’s was a big factor in our decision—having such a great pub right down the street was a huge selling point. We’re now regulars and decided to celebrate our 5th anniversary last week by ordering a “chef’s choice” picnic dinner to take home. We were SO happy with what he chose for us: Tangy bruschetta as an appetizer, perfectly done chicken francese with garlic bread, a big green salad, and incredible pumpkin cheesecake for dessert. We couldn’t have chosen better ourselves. (On the brand new menu, don’t miss the Brussels sprouts, the velvety truffle mac and cheese, the Fiesta Salad, and the Cordon Bleu sandwich!)
Lastly, don’t let the parking situation scare you off. We always find parking in front of the empty garage directly across the street, or next to the Putnam Valley Post Office on the other side of the garage. Very convenient and safe.
Well-run local joints are rare—we hope this one stays open forever.
