Ate here on Sunday, September 28, 2014. Quality of food and services has diminished significantly. So much so I thought it was under new management! First off, we had to hunt someone down to seat us, we were not even sure this person worked at the restaurant. Finally seated at a sticky, wobbly table by a waitress who never identified herself and who also was hard to understand. We ordered potato skins with cheese and bacon; after we started eating we noticed there was broccoli on them. We told the waitress and she took them back, we waited quite a long time for the second order of potato skins to arrive. When they finally arrived they were nice and hot but we got those at the same time as dinner was served. I ordered sliders which came with fries , the meat was lost in the slider bun and the buns on the sliders were stale, two of the fries had black areas on them where the potato is starting to go bad about an inch wide on each, this should have been caught in the kitchen and not served, and they were cold. My fiancé ordered a hamburger which was fine though fries were cold and not well done as he ordered.
I asked to speak to the manager; because I thought he should be made aware of the sub-standard food we were being served. After requesting the manager's presence twice, a man who introduced himself as Matthew came to our table. I told him about the buns and the steak fries and the broccoli on the potato skins and he whisked our food away which we were still eating! The waitress returns and tells us that the manager would like us to leave! Are you kidding....? I have never been treated this way. I thought someone was filling in for the manager. Upon leaving the restaurant my fiancé asked Matthew why are you asking us to leave? We only wanted you to know about the service and the old and stale food. Matthews response to my fiancé was and I quote, “ What are you a food critic?" He then accused us of theft of services! My fiancé is retired NYC law enforcement and showed his shield.to this effect. Also my fiancé has lived in the area for 20 years and was never treated in this manner before and we always enjoyed the food in the past. When I got home I looked online to see who the owner and manager is of this establishment and to my surprise... and not in a good way it is Matthew Kannon the same angry little man who berated and embarrassed us in the restaurant. What a poor excuse for a manger/human being. He might be the owner but as far as being a manager goes, he should be a "silent partner" and should not be dealing with the public on any level as he is ill equipped to do so. So the only explanation that I can think of this is that the manager has extremely poor people skills and needs to go back for retraining in dealing with the public or he is off his meds! Maybe there were other patrons who also complained about the poor quality of food that day and our complaint sent him over the edge. I discreetly asked him to come closer when he came to the table and lowered my voice when speaking to him. He created a scene when we were leaving the restaurant in front of a room full of patrons, still waiting for their food.
Whatever the reason, food now being served at the Barnsider Restaurant in Sugar Loaf, New York has sunk to an all-time low and service is pretty poor, I don't care how many years they have been there. Matthew Kannon should be ashamed of himself. We would not return nor would we recommend
