Best donuts in the world. No other comes close. And the folks who own the store in Statesville are salt off the Earth. That makes the donuts even better because they are made with love.

Today, I visited Daylight Donuts for the first time. It was very close to their closing time. The variety selection was very low, but the owner said he had more of the filled donuts in the back that he could fill with various flavors. He had one platter left of glazed ones. I had stopped to pick up a dozen donuts for a family with Covid as well a variety dozen for me. The owner was as nice and friendly as could be. I explained that I was taking one dozen to a Covid family. He had just lost his mother earlier in the year and explained how devastated he was affected. I could see the pain in his eyes. All I could do was listen to his story. How loving and respectful he thought of his mom who also worked their at the shop. He boxed everything up, and we ended our conversation"¦"¦I told him that I would be back. I paid him and thought to myself"¦..did he charge me enough? When I got home I texted my son who frequents the donut shop and asked him how much does a dozed of donuts run. He told $14. I was charged $14 "¦..but for two dozen instead. The owner had given me the one dozen free. What a giving gesture of the heart. I was not charged for donuts that I was taking to a family with Covid. This man touched my heart with his story of his deceased mom and having pity on a Covid family. People like this make it easy to go back again.
