Used to spend a lot of time at the top of the mountain and always had an amazing time at Basin Creek on shrimp night! OMG it meant being in NC (I.e.) being home as I was living in NJ, family gathering, excellent food, fun time with family, showing off all the best about NC to friends. It was tops along with Marion's Ham House at the top of the hill...unfortunately now closed...I miss it all!

Hands down the best burger in NC. A incredible beer selection, and a very laid back atmosphere. There kitchen is tiny (1 grill, and two fryers) so the wait for your food can be long if they are busy but if you want fast food head to MacDonald's. Sit back relax and enjoy the atmosphere.

Rude wait staff and long waits. The food isn't even that good. I am assuming that the reason why people keep going there is because everything else closes early in Elkin. I think that I would prefer to drive all the way to Winston for a decent meal then to be served there. Or better yet, just drive across the road to Dodge City. Their food is wonderful and fast and the atmosphere is unforgettable!

You go to Basin Creek for beer, atmosphere, hanging out, burgers, shrimp on Mondays, and live music on Thursday nights. Bring money for the jukebox any other night of the week.

DO NOT order the salt and pepper catfish ... it's awful! When I complained I was told I'm used to catfish filets and they serve catfish nuggets. The menu says catfish filets! No offer to take them off the bill even though I didn't eat it. Also, ordered the fresh chips instead of the fries. I was not told that they are $2.50 extra. When I questioned that, I was told 'sorry'! Won't be going back anytime soon.

Basin Creek is a quaint establishment with rustic old country store decor and creaky wooden floor boards. Their menu is limited to salads and sandwiches in selection and those are a little steep in price. There is one particular waitress (who shall remain nameless) who has been the downfall of my partonage to Basin Creek Country Store. She always seemed to be working the section that I chose to sit in. I was never greeted with a smile or a genuine, "And, how are you doing today?" It was always a blunt, "What do you want?" She has apparently been an employee of theirs for many years, I am assuming that she is a whiz on the grill or a very thorough cleaner of the toilets, because hospitality and smiling are obviously not her forte.
