The food was not great and when we told the waitress that we were unhappy not once did the owner come by to talk with us or try to make things right. The vegetable pizza hardly had any toppings. Each slice only had 1 tomato slice, 2 tiny mushrooms, 2 chopped pieces of onion and 1 chopped slice green pepper. The owner was very unfriendly and was in a bad mood. He still charged for the pizza because my husband and I each ate 1/2 of a slice. This was our first visit and definitely our last visit. The owner did not give us a good impression, I would not recommend this place.

noticed the floors were sticky when I walked in ,the plastic flowers could use a good cleaning, the plates looked a little suspicious too. the bread was rock hard and the butter was off. salad was disappointing , just lettuce and dressing, the bruschetta was very dry and hard, could use some olive oil! fresh basil would be better than the dry sprinkles all over the plate, the tomatoes were mealy (overly ripe) the pasta was way over cooked and there was hardly any meat in the meat sauce. and the bag of chips that accompany the sandwiches is a little tacky. would have sent my food back but was with family and mothers b-day, didn't want to make a scene.
service and music were good. food?....not so much. the chef ...cook? should take a little more pride in their food. for the money this meal was a big disappointment

First, let me say I am Italian and was raised by an Italian mother. I know what Italian food SHOULD be. This is NOT Italian food. This is inedible.

We arrived, the restaurant is old, dingy and in poor repair. We gave it a chance anyway, thinking it was a "rustic" quality.

We sat down and were served a small basket of bread. The bread was so tough, it really should have been croutons. The waitress said she would bring some bread that wasn't burned, but this was no better.

We ordered fried mozzarella sticks and these were served with the cheese ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE STICKS. Sometime during the fry process, the cheese came out and instead of fixing the problem, they served them. $6.95.

For dinner, we ordered 1.) Chicken Parmigiana 2.) Vegetable Lasagna and 2.) Baked Ziti.

The Chicken Parmigiana arrived with the chicken less than 1/4 inch thick. The chicken was hot, but was covered in extra thick, pasty sauce that was COLD. The spaghetti on the side was cold. This was not fresh cooked, it was clearly a reheat item. The chicken was so tough in the middle, it was not able to be consumed. $13.5 for food that I was able to eat less than 1/4 of the product.

The vegetable lasagna was served warm and aside from the gray, nasty egg plant they put in the middle, I guess it was okay UNTIL you got to the bottom two layers of the lasagna. The noodles on the bottom were literally like melba toast. They were touch, unable to be consumed. I was left with a plate of food that looked like vomit on toast. $13.95 and I was left with the most disgusting thing I have ever seen. It is really too bad I couldn't upload photos as I took pictures of this and the chicken. It was that bad.

The baked Ziti was interesting. It kind of leaves me at a loss for words. It was served hot which was a treat for the entire meal since most things were served cold. The Ziti was under-cooked and had a sauce that is something that escapes words and not in a good way. I just don't know how to describe it. It was mostly oil and some sort of pink substance. The flavor was absent. $9.95, a waste of money.

The salads were served okay. I have no compliments nor complaints. It was a standard bag salad mix and bottled dressing. The only reason it was decent is because they had nothing to do with the cooking process.

Then we move to the STAFF. Our waitress was unprofessional, unkept and down right sloppy. She acted like waling to our table was an inconvenience. She spent more time cackling in the kitchen with the other server than she ever did paying attention to our table.

The "chef" was a rude, abrasive b@sturd. He treats his customers and staff like dirt. We didn't send anything back for fear of what may come from this man based on the way he treated others.

FINALLY, there were the YOUNG CHILDREN running around in the kitchen. I'm not talking about pre-teens or teens, I am talking about 6 AND 7 YEAR OLD LITTLE GIRLS! These children are 1.) a health risk as they have no clue about proper sanitation and procedures in the kitchen and 2.) at a serious risk for injury by running around a commercial kitchen.

This restaurant is a joke and I am not sure how on earth he has managed to stay in business this long. We were ripped off for $60 and left to go eat dinner at McDonalds.

We've been here several times for different occasions. The atmosphere can be casual or formal, depending on how you dress the part--either is comfortable.
The food is excellent!
Service is decent. We've never had anything less than average service. Servers have always been nice and accommodating.

My husband and I live in the Charlotte area and were craving authentic Italian food. Although Mama Lena's is a bit of a drive, we recently heard that improvements were made to the menu. The menu is great, lower prices and good portions. We enjoyed the food. The service was awful. The server we had did not smile once, she had no personality at all. After we were done with our meal, she came to the table, never asked if we would like dessert or coffee, but to add to our disgust, she stacked our plates and cups on top of each other right under our noses, left the table and dropped the. check off! My suggestion to the owner, take out the trash and hire some class !

Our family enjoyed a wonderful authentic meal this evening. Our waiter, Robert, was professional and on the ball. We couldn't decide what type of wine to have,Robert suggested a Cabernet, this went perfectly with our meal. Ofcourse the dessert was the best part, a lemom chello cake, yum!

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! Food is fair to poor but the worst part of this place is the servers and owner! The owner is rude, bitter, angry, and unaccommodating even to children under the age of 5! Servers are unprofessional and poorly trained if trained at all. We have given this place chance after chance and once again it has fallen short. I just hope the owner gets the same crap service and experiences when he eats at other restaurants. This man does not desire to have his own restaurant and I hope that this deters others from eating here.

The only reason I gave it any stars at all is...the food was pretty good. However, I have never had worst service anywhere! After waiting to get our beverages, we sat an hour before our waiter came by to tell us the food was almost ready. At that point we had to ask, "Don't we get a salad?" "Oh yes," was his reply. He finally brought 5 salads w/ dressing on the side. I started to pour my dressing on, when my daughter asked what kind it was. His answer was, "ranch." She asked for Italian & he went & got it. Do they not believe in asking what dressing people would like before they bring it? He finally brought some of the food, which some was wrong, & off he went again. After another 10 mins., he came back & told my daughter her meal was almost done! At the end, we never got the bread we asked for, I ate a couple bites of salad because I didn't care for ranch dressing, almost 2hrs. after we got drinks, and 4 of us ate, $80 later, my daughter had to get her meal to go!! And, this dinner out was because she was leaving in the morning. Needless to say, this was a first and LAST visit to Mama Lena's!
