Sorry to do this but you guys have really gone down hill. I got 2 crab bisque soups last night was informed they were the last two bowls they tasted disgusting. Needed up not eating and giving it to my dogs.

I doubt I will ever eat here ever again I was so looking forward to my crab bisque last night until I took about three bites of it and realized it tasted disgusting ended up giving it to my dogs couldn't eat it me and my husband both had a bowl that we both gave to the dogs I've eaten here before the food was really good at one time when the old owner had it the daughter has since taken over and it has just gone downhill the food has gone downhill the service has gone down here there was not one waitress in there yesterday afternoon when my husband walked in and ordered he actually ordered three bowls of crab bisque he was informed there was only enough for two he also ordered Captain Ed's sauce wanted a whole case but they did not have a case guy went in the back room came back out and said he only had enough for about one and a half bottles meaning he was literally putting bottles together making a whole bottle just not cool guys you guys have really gone downhill I was so looking forward to my crab bisque last night.

I just got the worse flounder dinner I have ever had in my life.It was full of bones and flounder is not even suppose to have bones.I got the worse potatoe salad and Cole slaw I ever put in my mouth.Sting Ray use to be a good restaurant but not anymore.I will never go back there again.

This was an utterly disappointing meal. The crab soup had no crab in it. The biscuits that came with the soup were stale. After a wonderful day spent sightseeing, we were looking forward to a delicious meal. We were utterly disappointed. We will not visit this venue again.

My husband and I were visiting New Bern on Monday, April 4th, so we stopped by Sting Ray seafood restaurant. It was around 7 pm and the open sign was on. As soon as we approached the door, the sign light was turned off, even though on their website it says that closing time is 8:00 pm.
A lady that seems to be the owner, came out and said that their closing time, has changed, although it remains 8 pm on their website. It was very rude. We've never seen anything like that. We'll never go there again.

Although I went by and placed a reservation a couple days prior, they knew nothing about it when we got there. They weren't busy thankfully so we were seated quickly. After we ordered, it took 40 minutes until the food finally came out!!!! The waitress dropped my dinner so I had to wait another 15 minutes to get mine. Then my order was wrong!! She forgot to bring the condiments after she asked what we needed. We ended up getting our own refills cause she never did it even after she asked who needed refills.
The food was delicious but the service was horrible!! I had to take mine to go cause everyone was done and we had somewhere else to be. We had to go to the cashier to get the check because she didn't bring it even though we asked for it twice!
We would like to return but might not because of the lack of service!

We ate lunch here last week and were pleasantly surprised at the quick and friendly service, the good food and quaint & quirky decor. The price was very affordable. We would definitely recommend this establishment to others and will return ourselves.

@Brave Man...obviously this vile excuse of a human being did care about his "buck" by taking the $$$ and then delivering the "letter" ... aside from the owner needing a lesson in grammar, maybe he should focus on making better food and cleaning up this dump once in a while.

It's FREE SPEECH people. What a bunch of hypocrites. I'm an old, over-weight, bald, white man. If you don't like old, over-weight white men, you have the right to say so--(FREE SPEECH). It seems that homosexuals think they have the right to say what they want to support their lifestyle, but those who do not support that lifestyle are bigots, and should be condemned. Again, What a bunch of hypocrites.

Thank God for an American who right means more than a buck. Its time for busines owners to take a stand.

This is the worst place to eat in New Bern. It is gross. The seating was sticky and filthy. The staff is rude, untrained and slow. The food is disgusting. Hush puppies were burned and the waitress took them off another table and re-served them to us!!! I don't eat other people's leftovers. Good place to go if you want to get sick/food poisoning. Beware!

I would give it zero stars if I could.
I recently moved to NC from Ala, partially in hopes of escaping rampant bigotry. Unfortunately, it is everywhere, and it's up to those of us that aren't bigots to make our voices heard. I usually check the reviews of a company to see if they're "pushing hatred instead of hush puppies" prior to handing over my money. I will be adding the Sting Ray Cafe to my list of "do not eat here" before even giving them a chance to get my business. There are plenty of places to select, and business owners need to realize that the public is watching and listening.
Doesn't matter if you're left or right, Christian or not, gay or straight... Hate is hate, and spreading hatred should not be tolerated.
The owner had the nerve to "share" his disapproval about the couples' lifestyle, but yet felt their money was good enough for him. Shame on him. As for me, this STRAIGHT ALLY will find a restaurant that serves crab-cakes without a heaping side of hatred.

I would imagine that it would be one of the best places around to eat since the owner isn't just concerned about his patrons stomachs but is also concerned about their souls. Being a sodomite doesn't send you to hell, however. It's what you do with Jesus Christ. We are all born sinners and unless a person repents and puts their faith in Jesus Christ believing that He died on the cross for their sins, they earn eternal life in a fiery hell.

A pat on the back should go to Mr. McGovern. A Christian who is not afraid to be a witness for Jesus Christ even though he might loose a buck, thats a rare find these days.

Owner hates and hurts anyone who doesn't think like, act like, or live their lives like he does.

Ed McGovern serves up a heaping helping of bad old southern hate and bigotry.

Not worth your money or time. What a jerk.

review_stars 01/12/2013 - Disgusted
This cafe's owner: Ed McGovern, is a disgusting, homophobic, bigot. After taking a lesbian couple's money, he promptly gave them an extremely poorly written rant against homosexuality, using the bible as justification. Seeing as he barely has a grasp on spelling, punctuation and grammar, can we really trust his distorted interpretation of homosexuality? Mr. McGovern, let me address two biblical verses that you yourself must have 'misunderstood';
Exodus 31:14 "... for whoever does any work on the Sabbath, shall surely be put to death."
Leviticus 11:12 "Anything living in the water that does not have fins and scales is an abomination."
So, Mr. McGovern: if this country governed itself on biblical principles, as you desire, you would surely have been put to death for running an 'abomination' that you foolishly call a business!

The most anti-homosexual restaurant in the United States of America. Ed McGovern is a crypto-queer.

review_stars 01/11/2013 - homotastic
if you are against discrimination, hate, and having a homophobic dining experience, this is NOT the place you want to dine. The hypocrite that owns this establishment will take your gay dollars and then take it upon himself to give you a "rethink your life" letter based on what he thinks your sexual preference is. please read the article below for more information and share to spread awareness.
