10/16/2005 - Ken
I ate at this restaurant last night with my boyfriend. We walked by after receiving a menu from hawker on the street. We sat down after the maitre d' seemed quite charming and explained the new location was an outpost of a longtime flagship restaurant. Cool, fine, everything looked good. Okay, so the waiter takes our order without writing anything down (warning #1). He comes back a few minutes later to confirm my salad (warning #2). Why don't people write things down? No one thinks it's tacky to write down orders in a restaurant. Anyway, we were quite pleased with our appetizers. The roquefort and mozzarella salads were very good, so were excited to get our entrees. It took a little bit and the people next to us, who came in after us and ordered almost the same thing, got their food a while before we did (warning #3). Finally, the food shows up and my huge custom-baked lasagna looks great. My boyfriend's food looks good too, but he can't find the seafood in his seafood pasta. After looking around for the waiter, we ask Mr. Friendly Maitre D' to come by and explain the situation. He quickly comes back and says the waiter swears we got the order right. A few minutes later the waiter comes by and says, "Sweetie, I specifically remember asking if you wanted the whole wheat pasta (which is what he got)." We said we wouldn't have ordered something full of vegetables and whole wheat pasta. The waiter says, "Well, a replacement would take like 20 minutes." The boyfriend decides it's easier to just share mine (thanks waiter boy). Some other guy comes over and sternly asks if there is a problem (we later learned he's the manager). No one at this point has apologized, after the whole wheat thing I just said maybe there was a misunderstanding to avoid the drama (if only these people would write things down). Believe it or not the drama continued. The bill came with a sharing charge. I ask Mr. Friendly and he gets Mr. Stern Manager who tells us that's their policy. After I tell him the whole sweetie thing and our neighbor table tells him he was horrified by the service, they finally make the correction and make sure I know about it. Like I ever cared about the $4. At that point, we were told that the owner was around and he's mean and made them charge the sharing fee, so sorry! My recommendation is that if you really want this food, get the takeout! I am placing this review online to warn others about this place.
