The staff and the lunches are great, the price is a little high compared to lunch choices in the area. It's a small complaint because they mix it up daily with the lunch menu, and you get healthier food. I usually just order from here, it's too crammed to sit for my taste. Too bad because everything else about this restaurant satisfies. I favor their pasta dishes, they are a notch above.

Can you handle a very close, somewhat crammed dining experience with little privacy? Welcome to NYC. Frankly, Antique Cafe makes it bearable, even lovely(and you thought I was going to complain). Though it is undeniably small, Antique Cafe is big on elegance. They have a spiffy range of food choices, a little American and more French and Italian. Delicious. It's all above average. I've never tried the burgers which people tend to talk up, but I've never had a bad lunch here. Plus the owner is really sweet and loves to come up and say hi when I come. So, yeah, I had to write about it. Happy 2009 Antique Cafe!

I had the pleasure dining at the Antique Cafe this past week, trying something a little out of the ordinary. I've gone here on occasion for brunch, but never considered it a dinner destination.
To my surprise, not only was the intimate setting quite romantic(though I confess it wasn't a date), but a lot more subdued and relaxed than the brunch fanfare.
I had the shrimp fettuccine, which was an addictive flavor combination and jumbo sized shrimp. The cream sauce and smoked bacon had me wanting to order it again and bring it home with me. For $20 it was special and, perhaps a fairly common menu item in this town, but done uncommonly well.
Because of the small size of this restaurant, the service moves along quickly, are polite but not overly friendly, making you feel tended to but not overly pampered. I appreciate that. I would like to try this again with my family around the holidays. Though I should qualify that it's not much of a place for small children, it's worth getting a sitter for.
