With Tocqueville Restaurant's move to its new location down the block, owners Jo-Ann Makovitzky and Chef Marco Moreira reinvented its original space as 15 East. A trapezoid room with large windows, the space has a comfortably elegant dining room and chic sushi bar. Celebrated Sushi Chef Masato Shimizu oversees the sushi bar while Moreira creates Japanese inspired dishes to pair with the raw delicacies. Special cocktails made with sake and shochu, as many as 100 sakes and shochus including seasonal and hard to find selections, a well stocked wine list and artisanal Japanese beers pair well with the acclaimed menu. | Lunch Mon - Fri 11:45am-2pm Dinner Mon - Sat 6pm - 10:30pm No delivery or takeout

I recently had an Omakase experience at a Japanese-French restaurant, and while it was good and the sushi was delicious, I felt it was a bit pricey for what I got. The service was amazing, very friendly and accommodating, and they even brought out an extra dessert with a candle for a birthday celebration. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience with a good variety of fresh fish and a nice balance of flavors, though I left feeling not completely full after just 12 pieces of sushi.

This new sushi restaurant is competing with the top tier in New York. The chef was at Jewel Bako and he still makes some of the best sushi in town - his rice is excellent and the quality of fish superior. The cooked food is a bit of a step down but still manages to play nicely with the raw fish and appetizers like yamaimo salad. They have a very good soba chef - it changes daily but mine came with uni and I highly recommend a bowl. The room is a bit sparse but if you knew the old Tocqueville, you know that's the owners style. The sake list is very comprehensive and can be expensive but bargains can be had among the 500ml carafes.
