Restaurant Description

just let us know.
COLORS NY is different not because we serve only gluten-free food, or that we source locally and use non GMO products (which we do!) We also are a non-profit restaurant owned by Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United.
ROC was formed to help restaurant workers displaced by the World Trade Center tragedy and has since grown into the leading national restaurant workers' rights organization.
Since our opening in 2006, we have gone through many transformations and launched our gluten-free menu in 2014.
One of the many ways we serve the community is through our CHOW Institute (COLORS Hospitality & Opportunities for Workers) which offers professional development classes to restaurant workers seeking advancement within the industry.
COLORS is a member of RAISE (Restaurants Advancing Industry Standards in Employment) a national association of over 100 restaurants with high road business practices advocating on behalf of all restaurant workers.

05/31/2008 - Five Star Food & Service
I was in New York for the New Year holiday in 2006 and went to COLORS restaurant the first week they opened in January. I had heard about the restaurant on the news and definitely wanted to support them after hearing about their connection to 9/11. Food and service was 5 star. I am in town for a few weeks and decided to check them out again and was pleasantly surprised to see that the food was still excellent and that they were still around. The waitstaff still seems pretty shy but they were helpful and helped me decide on the salmon and mofungo cake for dinner. Their recommendation was on target and I enjoyed every morsel. Will continue to support when I’m in town.

05/31/2008 - Excellent Tapas Menu
Hadn’t been to colors in quite some time due to my travel schedule. My husband and I went last Thursday and were very happy. They must be doing better because it was very crowded. The last time I was there it was pretty dead. This time, I was pleasantly surprised that they had a full house. Food is on point. I more a sampler person than entrée so I like going to restaurants that offer a good variety of appetizers or tapas. The tapas menu was perfect for me. They offer this really cool thing that they didn’t’ have before rose petals which is crackers with several different spreads. I got eggplant, caviar, black bean and something else. My husband and I devoured that and then I got the shrimp tempura with goddess sauce and my husband got the strip steak. I not only ate every crumb but scraped up all of that sauce. It’s not an aioli but in that family – pure nirvana. Will definitely go back over the summer.
