My dad lived nearby, so I visited regularly mainly for their exceptional crab cakes, scallops, and trout, which rival homemade quality and are worth every penny. Leonard's, an old-school NYC butcher since 1910, offers fresh seafood, excellent cuts of meat, and friendly service, making it my go-to for gourmet dinners, despite the premium prices.

Living just a bit closer would make visits to Leonard's so much easier, especially since my dad used to live right around the corner. On Friday, I took my niece there for my favorite crab cakes, which were just as fantastic as I remembered, and it was great to catch up with Pete and the friendly staff in that charming old-school butcher shop.
