I worked there in 1986. It had great authentic Italian cuisine. The young head chef was from Sicily & spoke little broken English there was another who spoke no English, so I learned enough Italian. I discovered what real Italian food (not Americanized) was at Cinecitta. Stuffed lamb's intestines, truffles, much lighter fare than the cheesy, heavily sauced pasta I knew. They had a stone pizza oven, which I had never seen before and strange (to me) toppings like arugala or eggs. Celebrities often ate there, I remember Florence Henderson coming in one night. It was a great experience, but I couldn't advance because I wasn't Italian. So, I moved up the street to Maxwell's Plum. Those were the days, NYC 1980'S was a glorious time, for restaurants, clubs, live music venues & fun. You could still manage to live & get by as a young person in the city then. I can't imagine how it would be possible now.
