I have ordered Chinese from House of Pearl since I moved to Brunswick five years ago. Even after I moved outside of the area, I drove 20 minutes to House of Pearl (HoP) whenever I had a taste for some Chinese food, because the restaurants in the area I moved to just didn't compare. On Monday (3/26/12), I drove out to Brunswick and ordered my usual (shrimp fried rice, egg foo young, and egg rolls). Since it's just me eating the food, the large portions were stretched out to be my dinner for the rest of the week. I noticed that the egg rolls were a bit burnt on the ends, and gave HoP a pass because their food is always great - I won't slam them for a burnt egg roll.
On Wednesday night, however (3/28/12), I'm eating some leftover fried rice/egg foo young for the evening, and I find a two-inch HAIR in my food with dried gravy on it - totally disgusting. Without looking, I almost ate it (thinking it was a bean sprout), but it didn't FEEL like a bean sprout in my mouth. I called HoP to tell them about the hair. What do I get in response? "I can't do that." (Can't do what? I didn't ask for money or a comped meal, I'm just informing you.) The man who answered the phone then went on to blame me for waiting too long to tell them. What was I supposed to do, go thru both containers on Monday with a fine-toothed comb (pardon the pun)? And to insult me even further, he said, "Maybe your hair fell in the food." While it was being prepared? Because there was dried gravy on the strand of straight hair (my hair is curly). I told him that I won't be coming back, and ended the call. Now I have to find another favorite Chinese food restaurant.
