I USED TO BE A TRUCKER AND STOPPED THERE WHENEVER POSSIBLE. THE FOOD WAS AWESOME! I DON'T EAT DESERTS BUT THOSE PIES WERE TO DIE FOR. I WANT TO TAKE MY WIFE THERE BUT NOT SURE IF THEY ARE STILL OPEN, SO MANY PLACES IN OKLAHOMA HAVE CLOSED.

Mark you are just mad because you cannot come up with such good food so you have to sit there and be a troll. And whine about anything that goes down your oropharynx. If you were really "Country" you would not care that much about the food but getting to spend time with family, and friends. Lastly you should not come back here anymore I give you a big FINGER UP _l_ -_- _l_ P.S. It's not my thumb.

I was there back in 2000 on our way to amarillo TX was the most amazing food I have ever had in my life. I wish there was one here in PA but to travel 1300 miles for lunch is crazy but id do it for that food

We went on an around the country drive as our vacation this summer. One of the things on our to do list was to have some Southern BBQ. As we neared Henryetta, OK, the Pig out showed up just as we were ready for dinner. I have no idea what that Truck Driver was talking about. My husband ordered off the menu, I chose the buffet. The food was so wonderful we left hurting! We drove for a month in a big circle, eating out almost every night & the Pig Out stood out as one of the cheapest & most delicious meals we had!!!!

Recently, after hearing about it from other drivers for the last few years, I decided to finally try the "Pig Out Palace Buffet and Grill" in Henryetta, OK. It

was a rainy Saturday afternoon perfect for indulging in unlimited amounts of great comfort food. Many other drivers swear it's a great place to stop and, well,

pig out. They make a big deal out of the fact that they don't use "pre-fab" food. Says it right on the menu. Good home cookin' they say. We'll see about

that.

Rolling in I noticed they have a prodigious amount of truck parking which is always nice when you live in one of these behemoths like I do. It also seems

popular with travellers in automobiles as the car lot was almost full. Walking in the front door I noticed two things, one was the expected pig-related decor on

the walls (like when you go to your aunt Jennie's trailer and "She just loves them pigs!") and two was the puny size of the buffet line. One thing most truck

drivers love to do is eat, so after hearing such high praise of "P.O.P." on the CB radio I thought the buffet would be much bigger. "Still", I thought, "Maybe the

food's really good so they don't need a big line." Riiiiiiiiight.

Before I go on let me state that they have an a la carte menu here that may be much better than the buffet. I don't know. It looks pretty good, but I came

for the buffet as that's what this place is famous for.

Here's the breakdown of the buffet. Standard salad bar with the usual stuff on it. Great looking pasta salad that turned out to taste like watery mayo and

overcooked pasta. One soup tureen containing that perennial favorite of the buffet, vegetable beef soup. Standard hot line with 10 items which I will go over

in more detail in the next paragraph and finally a dessert bar with the usual soft ice cream machine.

The hot foods are literally the "meat and potatoes" of every buffet and most of these were disappointing. First there were two pasta dishes that never

should have made it out of the kitchen. One was evidently supposed to be fettucini alfredo with chicken. Very watery and not at all appetizing. The sauce

was a sick yellow color like it had chicken base added to it. Didn't even try it. Then there was the fettucini with meat sauce. This was obviously left over from

the day (or days) before as the pasta was so overcooked it had turned completely to mush. I tried a bite just to gauge the flavor of the sauce and it was

obviously canned with meat added. Right off the bat I'm thinking, "So much for home cooking." Then came the obligatory fried chicken. I don't know why it

seems so hard for restaurant cooks to make decent fried chicken but this venerable southern art form seems to escape most of them. It was dry, greasy and

the "flavor" consisted of chicken and flour, nothing more. Hey, guys, soak it in brine the night before. Throw some spices in the flour. DO SOMETHING!

Beyond the chicken was meatloaf that would have been pretty good if it hadn't been completely drowned in ketchup. I like ketchup on my meatloaf as much

as the next guy but it should be used as a glaze. Put a little on top and let it carmelize in the oven. I literally had to dig through the ketchup to get to the

meat. Then there were smoked sausages cut up in bite size pieces, grilled (actually probably baked on a sheet pan) and tossed in barbeque sauce. Not

terrible but certainly not home cooking, at least in my home. Next was a rice dish with chicken. It looked like something that was supposed to be mexican

but tasted a little like chicken pot pie. There was something sweet in it and the whole thing was a bit disturbing. Reminded me of something that had

already been eaten and then returned from the depths of some unlucky soul's stomach.

Beyond this meaty frontier were twice baked potatoes which were a welcome suprise as they were VERY GOOD! Creamy and cheesy on the inside and

crispy-baked on the outside. They were perfect and looked like they were actually made from left over baked potatoes and didn't come frozen in a box. Next

were the green beans that tasted like, wait for it, green beans! No salt, no pork hocks, ham, bacon or anything else that would have given the green beans

any added punch. Green beans, water, boil, serve. Finally I came to the last two vegetables, fried okra and barbeque baked beans. The fried okra was of the

variety that comes pre-breaded and frozen in a box and is deep fried, dumped in a line pan and stuck out on the hot line in crappy buffets all over the

country. The baked beans probably started off in a can and had barbeque sauce, bits of smoked sausage and maybe some brown sugar added before being

heated and put on the buffet. They were not bad.

The dessert bar in this "no pre-fab food" restaurant had PRE-FAB cherry and peach cobbler that came frozen in disposable aluminum pans before being

baked and put on the bar, as well as two different kinds of frozen PRE-FAB cheesecake. Yum! The big draw of course was the soft ice cream machine. Always

a hit with the kids.

If you're into the middle-america, kitchy souvenir thing, P.O.P. has a little store where you can buy t-shirts, coffee mugs and just about anything else you

can think of that they could put a P.O.P. logo on. I'm sure they'd be happy to sell you a trunk load of that junk.

At $9.99 for lunch, the P.O.P. is no more expensive than many other buffets and like many others most of the food is crap. The "no pre-fab food" thing is a

complete lie. The only items that were worth having were the twice baked potatoes, baked beans, smoked sausage and maybe the meat loaf if they didn't put

a gallon of ketchup on it. For someone who is not as discerning as myself and simply wants to "pig out" I'm sure it will suffice. As for me, I won't be going

back. I give the "Pig Out Palace Buffet and Grill" a big THUMBS DOWN!
