They do not proudly serve coke produce

I agree with the health departments rating on Sortino’s restaurant. I only eat pizza there because it is cooked at 500 degrees so most of the germs from the dirty kitchen are killed off. They do have fabulous onion rings, but you have wrap the salt shaker with a napkin to use it because it is so crusty it grosses me out. Sadly I agree with others about the carpet, it has been the same for thirty years so don’t expect a change. And the bathrooms do not use them if you do not have to. Thank goodness I no longer have small children I have to take in there. I have never had problems with the staff. I keep going back so shame on me.

Been going for years. Don’t listen to these nerds, this place is legit.

review_stars 06/07/2015 - OmahaFamily
It is family owned and they apparently do not intend to put anything back into the business. The bathrooms are desperate for a remodel, the carpet needs to come out, and the big projector tv needs to be replaced.

Asking people to pay for extra salad dressing and cheese, is hateful. It's small potatoes in the "cost of doing business". Considering the ill-will it creates I don't know why they do it. It is miserly and mean.

I suspect most of the insolent behavior stems from the attitude of owner. I have seen her in there many times and she doesn't want to be there .. there is no smile. Her body language says, "don't bother me or you will regret it"!

That being said, there are redeeming features. You can push around the tables to suit what you need.. so it is a great place to go with the team, after the game .. or with a lot of family and you don't need reservations. The kids head straight for the game room and you won't see them again until they run out of quarters.

And yes, the food is spectacular. I love the pizza and spaghetti. They have great meat balls (which they make themselves and really good onion rings which are hand breaded. It is the food not the atmosphere, that brings us back.

I have been going to Sortino's since 1982 and have always believed the pizza to be the best in town. That said; I also believe the carpet is the same carpet today as of 1982. I also hate the fact that to get condiments you have to pay for a little container of sprinkle cheese and deal with red pepper packets.
Come on! Put the cheese and red pepper flakes on the tables! Crushed red flakes are about as cheap as dirt and the cheese cannot be far behind when buying in bulk.
The onion rings are the worst rings in Nebraska. Do the owners/Cooks not even bother to taste their food?

I just had to respond to the review by Mitch. If you bring in 70 people for a luncheon and expect everything to go off without a problem then your just an idiot. Now I agree with most of the reviews in here, I think the pizza is very good, one of my favorites, but the staff does need some help in customer service. If you don't like people then do not get in a customer service job. And as for Mitch to say that people that like Sortino's just haven't had good pizza makes you a moron. I have pizza from about everywhere and Sortino's remains one of my favorites. Just because my opinion varies from yours doesn't make it bad pizza, it just means we have different tastes.

Bottom line, go to Johnny's for the pizza, not their horrible service

Been going to Johnny's since I can remember. 40+ years. Always have had good food. The only thing that irks me is the refills on soda. Kinda makes me feel cheated. Even fast food has free refills. Still love there pizza

I worked at Johnny Sortino's (84th & L) in the mid '80's while in high school in Papillion. I also worked at a Pizza Inn in Ralston and their pizza was far superior even though it's chain restaurant. But, it's not the pizza that sucks at Sortino's, it's the owner. He's a d-bag and based upon other reviews here, that attitude is prevalent among most of the staff. One cool experience though: One night on the closing crew, I was vacuuming the filthy carpet in the dining room when the Big O, Oscar Robertson strolled into the bar area for a drink. I approached him and asked for his autograph and he obliged. Still have it on the bar napkin. He used to promote some product for the UNO Mavericks. That was the one high light of my experience there.

I have been coming to this establishment for years and have always enjoyed the pizza and feel that it is very best in Omaha, however something needs to be done about the general attitudes of the mature staff.

The service that my family and friends received on Saturday February 18th from the young staff taking our food order was awesome. They were friendly, energetic, knowledgeable and helpful. Their demeanor at 11:30 on a Saturday morning was pleasant. Maybe they should teach the experienced staff that has been there for years how to treat patrons.

Our family could have chosen from many other pizza parlors to have a birthday party at, but we chose yours. Upon our initial arrival, your hostess/bartender was less than friendly with us after we told her we had a large group of 30 coming for lunch. She appeared to be put out with having to accommodate us. I can certainly understand being concerned with the number of people coming and not having tables pre-arranged, however it was 11:15 in the morning and your business was not even busy yet. Two of our friends arrived early to advise your restaurant of the party's arrival and both of them are in the food service business. They were in shock at your hostess' attitude. After arranging the area with adequate tables, our guests who arrived early were standing between the tables and the bar area the same staff was irritated with them for standing in the path...unbelievable...as if people cannot go around. It was obvious to all that this staff member did not want to be at work by her attitude and general disgust with having to be of service to a large group that she wasn't planning on.

In this economic time, I think that anyone in the food service business should be thankful for the business. We did feel welcomed by your kitchen staff, but the service that I knew all the years of coming to Johnny's is long gone. We didn't hear a "thank you for coming in" or "how was everything today?". Let me tell you also that this is not the first time this has happened either. The pizza is exceptional which is a good thing, because the pitchers of Bud Light were flat and expensive and the waitress/hostess took our half full pitcher of soda away from the table before our party was finished.
Customer service is everything these days, I would suggest that your staff participate in a course in this area to better your establishment.
Thanks for listening and once again great pizza...maybe I will just stick to take out in the future.

We have lived in colorado for 6 years and recently returned to nebraska. What has happened to Sortinos? While the pizza was wonderful the help needs to improve their dispositions and be more customer friendly. Also you feel like you are being nickle and dimed to death. Refills of drinks and having to pay for cheese and salad dressing! Has the economy really affected you that much??? That is not the Italian welcome to our home atmosphere it used to be.

My husband started going to Sortino's in the 70's when it was on 72nd street. We are loyal patrons and this is the only place my children and now my grandchildren want to go for their birthday parties. The staff is friendly, the food is good, and I'm not looking for a 5 star fine dining establishment. I am looking for a fun, family friendly pizza joint that has good pizza!

Ordered 2 pizza's. Ordered wife's pizza and told them NO GREEN peppers. Pizza came WITH green peppers. Someone cannot read!
Can not stand any restaurant with a filthy floor ( carpet). Looked horrible !!!
Will not be returning to Sortino's for sure.

Love the pizza and get it once a month. Always good service for me.

Overhyped & overpriced middle-of-the-road fare. We ordered a veggie pizza, and not only were the mushrooms canned, (and they had a strong "tin can" taste) but the rest of the pizza was just... bland, and the toppings were sparse. After reading their boasts of handmade crust and only the best ingredients, we expected better. I've actually had better frozen pizza than this stuff.

ill refocus back to last year just to defend this place based on a review.... the person complaining about the business luncheon-screw off sortinos rocks and probably wanted nothing to do with your "70+ d-bags", but has to make money somewhere and took the request. Sortino's Pizza is awesome and my family has gone here for 20+ years. Old school and incredible- if you are complaining about the "service"...you are pathetic. its a pizza place, they make the pizza.. the rest is on you.

I think Sortino's has the best pizza in town.

review_stars 02/15/2011 - tyler
Alright pizza. Simply the worst customer service ever!!!! I repeat ever. It is all family run and they all have terrible attitudes stay away from this dump!

review_stars 10/29/2010 - Mike Ederer
Johnny's has your pizza done in 15-20 minutes if your not there it goes in the hot box. I've never never gotten a cold pizza from them and they do have specials. they have a personal pan lunch pizza, a sandwich, or pasta lunch special. Yes lunch less under $6
You have to buy your refills and sprinkle cheese
they don't give it away but what you get is inexpensive and over the top compared to any other pizza in Omaha. Big Fred's is good too but Sortinos my favorite true home-style pizza

review_stars 10/06/2010 - Hugh Jass
They never have specials, and often times the takeout is cold. Not big on customer service.

Best pizza and onion rings in omaha

review_stars 06/07/2010 - Andrea
My husband and I have been to Johnny Sortino's many times and we love it! To compare a Johnny Sortino's pizza to the nauseating MESS that is Pizza Hut is just sad.

Also, to show up with a group of seventy people and then complain that two people's orders were not right - out of SEVENTY - is unrealistic. It sounds as if the past reviewer was unhappy when they stepped in the door, and this may have colored their critique.

We have never had ANY problems with the service, and have thoroughly enjoyed each and every experience at the restaurant!

review_stars 06/05/2010 - Chelsie
I'm writing this review to counter the only other review. Sortino's is my favorite pizza in town!! Really, it's just about my favorite pizza anywhere. It isn't that expensive and oh so yummy. I don't know what that other reviewer's problem is. Go there now. Yummmmmmmm!

review_stars 05/25/2010 - MItch
I went there with a large group for work. While there they did not provide enough drinks for our group (around 70 coworkers) and then charged us extra. After that they gave out the food we were two meals short. The owner refused to believe us and refused to give out two meals of mostacolli with meatballs. The owner was incredibly rude and her behavior was disgusting.

As far as the pizza goes it was OK. There was really no difference between it and a Pizza Hut personal pan, except the Pizza Hut is cheaper.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. The behavior of the owner was just sad. The people who wrote that it is the best pizza in town have obviously not had a decent pizza in their lives!
