Top Reviews of Tutti Santi By Nina

A friend chose to celebrate her birthday at Tutti Santi in Mesa. The restaurant had a nice ambiance and our table for 8 was prepared so there was no wait. After the rest of our party arrived, our server was very consistent with checking on us to see if we were ready for her to take our order. And that is where the hospitality and good service ended. Once our order was taken, we didn't see our server forquite some time. I got her attention verbally to request a refill of my iced tea...which had been empty...along with several waters on the table for long enough to require having to ask. At that time we also asked for another basket of bread, as our appetizers hadn't made there way out to our table after a good 30 minutes of ordering. When our appetizers did come out...maybe additional 15 minutes later...I re-asked for the basket of bread since that never made it out either. A couple of us also needed drink refills again. Not that anyone was drinking fast, it truly was that long before she appeared at our table. Everytime someone requested a refill, her body language and facial expressions were that of being irritated and as if we were being bothersome. Our dinner made it out about another 30 minutes later (over an hour after being ordered) and was brought 2 plates at a time. Now we were a party of 8...but there were only 6 meals as a couple people shared. I want to be clear that it wasn't a large work load. The food was very good and good sized portions. That would be where the second star came from. When she finally brought our checks...we noticed only 1 person was split and the rest of us were on 1 check. When I asked her if she could split them into 2...she said, "I have a party of 30 and I have to split theirs so it would take at least a half an hour for me to split yours". Wow. Really? If that wasn't a blow to priority level and insignificance, I don't know what is. I have been a server before and it does NOT take that much time OR work to split checks. And nor would I use how much customers I have as an excuse. That simply means that having more tables was too much for her if she can't give all patrons the same service. So I decided to split everything myself and try and calculate the tax etc. when I saw that she had included the gratuity for a party of 8 or more. Ummm we were a party of 7 on 1 check and a prty of 1 on the other. The party of 1 didn't have a gratuity included but she added it on to ours as a total of 8 ppl. When she did come back, one of the gentlemen gave her the check and had her split it instead of me doing her job. I told her the 2 separate checks and she was back in maybe 5 minutes...not the 30 minutes she initially said it would take. Again, making excuses to eliminate her work. On the NEW checks..the gratuity was calculated agian and added. Now it was for a perty of 2 and a party of 5. NOT a party of 8! She came back to the table and then explained it is for a party of 6 or more...which again...there was a party of 5 and a party of 2. Her comment was, "don't give me a tip then. I don't care. I don't understand what you want from me." Are you kidding me??? I was pretty much drop jawed as I didn't think it could get worse than that. We gave her our payment and someone went to talk with the owner because not only was our service less than mediocre after we ordered, our requests for drink refills proving irritating, now she was verbally being rude. The answer the owner gave was, "I don't see what was done wrong. You finish paying and leave." As we were walking OUT the door...he was behind the bar (drinking a shot) and yelling at us like WE had been out of line in a big way yet HE was making a scene. I know this got lengthy but having been in the industry, I KNOW what serves as GOOD service and what is far from it. Especially the caliber of restaurant it seemed to be both in appearance and prices. I just have not been treated with such poor customer service and then to top it off...the owner not caring AT ALL about an unpleasant experience in his restaurant. I don't knw the server's name (as she never introduced herself nor had a name tag but she had disheveled red hair pulled back in a half ponytail/bun.

So..the ambience is 1 star...and the food is another star. If you really don't care about the service you receive then you will have no problems. But if you do...you most likely will be irritated and your dining experience will prove unpleasant.
