Been eating at Roake's since 1964 when we moved from Salem to Gladstone. Footlong hot dogs to die for that only cost $.45. And I remember that old man. Going outside to the ancillary structure that held his freezers ... Roake's was sold when he died, and that's been several years ago now. Even so, it's still Roake's. I have to say however, that the actual hot dogs aren't the same as they once were. We just don't have hot dogs like that anymore anywhere. :-)

I stopped by 8/31/21 and I don't know if my taste has changed but I just don't remember the Coney sauce being so bland. I remembered it as oniony ( if that's a word) just the right amount of spice and of course masa. Like I said I'm not sure if my taste changed or not but I always remembered it being a little deeper red not not so pale looking. I don't know it just didn't seem the same to me.

Been stopping by this place for over 40 years!!! Fantastic burgers and yes Best Footlong Coney hot dogs I have ever had this side of the Mississippi!!! Great shakes as well and the fries, soft and fresh they make everything cook to order for you. We get the footlong coneys at least twice a month. My uncles and brothers love the Roka burgers and fries too. Can't go wrong with anything here. Give it a try!!!

I’ve been a long time customer at Roake’s for years and always had a good meal.
Today (7/22/20) Not so Good, Horrible to be exact.
Our order was not correct when received and I understand they had new hires in training. Which was OK and they made everything right.
But, the Food OMG! Literally tasted like “-ss”
Fries must have been cooked in old oil which I offered my dog a one of the French fries and he would not eat it. My wife’s Deluxe Cheese Burger tasted rancid and my Chili Boat Missed the boat! It had been around awhile. The Chili was just not fresh.
Sad to say. l Don’t think we will be eating there again.

Been eating at Roakes since I was probably just a year old, when my folks just ordered me a bun in the back seat! Soon graduated to the foot-long and fries -- nothing short of paradise. At my prime, could pack away three of those bad boys and wash them down with a chocolate shake. Older now (67) and living in Olympia, but whenever I come down to visit the old haunts, I always leave with 5 or 6 for home eating. You have no idea how crazy you get smelling them for two straight hours, or the temptation to wolf one down at the rest stop!

Have probably eaten at Roakes (Milwaukie, E Stark St, 82nd Ave, Columbia Blvd and Aloha (before becoming Annie's) 50-75 times. Live close to Milwaukie and have always been pleased. I guess I'll simply say 'nip it in the bud.' Ordered take out when I got there and waited, but only live 5 minutes away, and ate immediately. The fries were, at best luke warm - cold better description. The coney was great as usual.

Still a loyal Roakes customer, but if I have another similar experience, perhaps not!

I come from New York. I tried the Coney Island hot dog and fries. I threw away both after one or two bites. Racid tasting. The cheapist tasting, pork likely, hot dog. Coney Island is all beef. Who ever likes this has no idea of food and how it should be.

Just ate there and the coney sauce was so spicy you could not eat the foot long.

It is hit or miss with their french fries being overcooked and tasteless, and you should never have to tell them leave them lightly brown. I normally get the super roaker burger with the better bun, but on 6/8/2013 I went with the regular bun since they don't put enough sauce on the super. I noticed on the 8th someone made a big mistake with the recipe since whatever they use to make it hot (red pepper?) that heat off the first bite was totally missing and a bitter taste of another spice was very noticible as it left a bad taste in my mouth after every bite.

At least they didn't overcook the fries!

I usually go to Roake's about once a week. I love the coney dog. It has always been my favorite since the 70s, but lately they seem to be skimping on the coney sauce. I was there yesterday and the dog was dry. Very dissapointing.

I have been going to Roake's since the 1950's. We would drive all the way from North Portland. Now my daughter lives in Florida and and she has to go at least once when she is home. The Best!!!

I am lucky enough to live close to Roake's in Milwaukie. It is a close drive for those from Portland and worth the trip. Great food and the feeling of stepping back in time when ya order. ENJOY!

I have always rated Roake's Coney Dogs as the best in the world. Watching the waistline, I have not had a coney dog for a while.

On Dec. 16th, I went to Roake's in Milwaukie, and ordered three coney dogs and an order of coney fries. Not all for me.

I was very disappointed. The dogs were good and snapped when bit, but there was only a trace of the coney sauce on all three dogs. I thought it was just me but my wife commented about no sauce. In fact there was so little sauce all you could taste was the hot dog and onions.

The coney fries were more like cheese fries and again where is the sauce.

I do not know if they have a new cook who does not know how much to put on, or if Roake's has cut back to save costs.

Needless to say, I was very disappointed and will probably try and find another Coney Dog stand that will actually put some sauce on their dogs, the way Roake's used to serve them.

I drive up to Roake's at least once a month for the best chili dog since i used to live in L.A.,where chili dog stands are all over the place.
I now live at the coast in Waldport Or.,that's a 3 to 4 hour drive for the best chili dogs.
Then i usually head over to the Acropolis for entertainment then to the Bridgeport movie theater then home or stay overnight so i can have another dog! lol.
Something about those steamed buns and the weiners they use and that great chili.

I have only had the coney - - but I have had about a hundred of them over the years. Truly the BEST I have ever had. Have a friend coming back to Portland this week from some 4000 miles and he of course wants to meet up at ROAKES!
