The Garden Grill is my favorite restaurant in the country, and I am a BIG food snob! It always blows me away: Unbelievable creativity & originality of dishes, fantastic presentation, and flavors that are rich and deep and out of this world. I enthusiastically recommend treating yourself to this amazing restaurant.

Added bonus: The prices are very reasonable.

Today me and 2 of my coworkers decided to go there for the first time. The food was delicious but the service was HORRIBLE, and SUPER SLOW. Me and my friends waited and waited and waited, and the waitress gave us so much attitude that we wanted to leave the place really bad. Finally she brings what my friends ordered but she completely forgot about me. Then she comes back and forgets the juice we had ordered. She passes right by us in many occasions and decides to ignore us when we were ready to pay. It was a very bad experience to the point where we wanted to leave, but the food was sooo good and that's the only reason why we stayed. I think she should be replaced by a faster, nicer, more efficient waitress. She makes the place look really bad!!!

This restaurant is my favorite restaurant in Providence, mainly because I am a vegetarian. I get excited to go here, the food is great. I just have a concern because lately I have not had very good service. I am writing this review not to dog them, but to offer a critique so that if they see this they may be able to fix this growing problem. I have been going there for years, and have never had an issue. The serivce is very slow, but never seemed to bother me because I enjoy relaxing and enjoying my time in a restaurant. Just last week I attended Garden Grille twice in one weekend by accident and both night had a rough time while there. My first visit to the restaurant was on Friday. I attended with my best friend, and we were excitied to go because we haven't been in a while. We get seated at a table, and then was never attended to for a very long time. After waiting, the waitress finally comes over and apologizes because she had forgotten about us, I kind of wish she had lied and not told us that she indeed forgotten us but whatever we were still excited to be there. So she gives us the menu, and we look through. We decide what we want and then wait, and wait, and wait. Still no waitress. Finally she comes over, and says again that she had forgotten. She could have left the whole forgot part out all together but then again we were ok. We ordered a drink that they had taked off the menu, so then we don't know what to order so we decide to try a drink we had never had before to which the waitress said was delicious. So we trusted her, what the hell. Put in our order. Then she comes back and say they do not have the appetizer that we ordered they ran out(which happens there almost everytime I go there) So whetever we ordered something else. We get our drink and they were horrible!! We could not choke them down, they tasted like pure rubbing alcohol!! Oh I also forgot to mention that she told us our drinks would be free of charge, because she had forgotten about us twice!! Ok so we get the meal. It was ok, it was an entree, but could have been better. So time to leave, and she says she had to charge us for one of the drinks because we did not drink them. Oh well, kind of aggrivating because she raved about how good they were. So we left, kind of dissapointed, but still enjoy going there. So the next night my sister who never gets a night out wanted to go there badly, so I figured what the heck give it another try. Well service was ok, except we never had one waitstaff. We kept getting different people the whole time. My sister and I order the same thing an entree with tofu. They bring it out and they give us the wrong order??? So they apologize and promise us that the meals are free because they screwed up. So they bring out my entree first, then make my sister wait for hers. They could have just brought them out together. Well I go to eat mine and notice that the tofu, which is the main part of the dish is not there?? It's not anywhere on the plate?? I don't understand how they could forget the main ingredient, but they did. And to top it all off we were charged for one of the meals, they were not taken off the bill. Like I said I enjoy going there, but I really hope they do something about the service of the place because I don't want to stop dining there. I will if things do not get more organized around there.

How to start?!
It was fantastic.
Had dinner @ Garden Grill last night with Liz. She is vegetarian, I am confirmed carnivore. I've been dragged to dedicated Veg restaurants before, and never been impressed, and often been very disappointed.
NOT SO with Garden Grill.
Wow, the place was jumping (approx 7:15pm) with a line to get in. We managed to get a good seat in half the time we expected.
Staff was with us immediately to take our drink order and welcome us. This remained the case all evening, with never a moment I was waiting for wait staff. Very prompt.
The beer choices were excellent. I had the rather carnivore friendly Burrito and garden Salad, Liz had the Veg Meatloaf special.
We both had small garden salads.
The burrito was one of the best I have had, rice black beans quac, the usual, but it was on a huge toasted or grilled whole wheat wrapper that was tasty on its own. The thing was huge and satisfied this Steak Eaters appetite completely!
The "Meatloaf" (vegan of course) was also amazing, a complex yet well choreographed comb of flavors and sauce,. for a real veg head it was heaven, for me it was pretty fantastic a well, and exposed me to a level of vegetarian cuisine I did not think was possible.

We than shared the Carrot Cake with some of the very fine de-caf they serve. Excellent, subtle cake.

A perfect evening, an I did not for one second miss the fact that we were next to to a Rib Joint!

I foudn Rob, the Owner that night to express my thanks at being so well taken care of.

We got out of there totally satisfied with several course and our beers for about $50.00 before gratuity.
Considering that I would rank the whole evening up there with Providences very best restaurants, that was a VERY affordable and well spent night out.

Folks, if you are a Veg, run don't walk to this fine establishment.
If your a Carnivore like me, fear not! I was completely satisfied, and in fact loved it.

5 Michelin Stars from me :-)

my wife and i have been vegetarians for over 30 years. we live outside madison wisconsin, a pretty hip place in its own right. the garden grille is probably the best veggie restaurant we have ever had the pleasure to eat at. we visit r.i. about twice a year and always go here. the food is consistently excellent, the variety is wonderful, the service is really good. we love the place and have no complaints.

The atmosphere is very relaxed and clean and we enjoyed the anticipation which was well rewarded. I chose the Pear and asparagus salad which was perfectly seasoned, all of the flavors separated beautifully. I also tried the Butternut squash Quesadilla. This was excepional and the first time that I thought a quesadilla was perfectly seasoned without relying on cheese. ask for extra salsa. it helped to balance the dish. Service was polite and interactive but Slowwww. Ask for bread to hold you over.
