I have been stopping at Spokes for several years while passing through the area. I always make it a point to go there and get a burger on my way through the area. But as now after my last visit there on May 8, 2012 I am pretty sure that will no longer be happening.
Spokes was not just a place for a great burger, but seeing the vintage motorcycles and old school biker feel of the place made it unique. Yet it was inviting to anyone and everyone, not just bikers. They had burgers that were made fresh when ordered, that were out of this world. Not only beef burgers but buffalo as well. There were a lot of other great options on the menu, and in the coolers as well. When you ordered it was at the counter and they brought your food out to you.
Now, there are “new owners” with new ideas and have completely changed the place. When I pulled up I thought Spokes was closed down due to the construction going on. At first I was like, “oh looks like they are adding on, or maybe adding an outdoor eating area.” But that was just the tip of the iceberg. When I walked inside through the new side entrance, it was all changed. The rear counter was gone, they were adding an upstairs section, added a stage (for live bands), building and addition, and now have waitresses. To top it off, a lot of the vintage motorcycle gear that was cool to look at was gone, and they have a new name they are coming up with…”Route 20 Outhouse”…
We were already there, so we decided to go ahead and eat. The menu had been slimmed down from what it used to be and just had the basics now. But it still had the burgers. So of course I went for the burger I had craved. When it came it looked the same as it always had, but that was all it did. The taste was gone!!! My wife said the same thing about hers. So I knew it wasn’t just me being biased. It literally tasted like just plain as day hamburger, no flavor at all. There was no seasoning to it at what so ever. To top it off the fries were over cooked.
It just goes to show that sometimes change isn’t good. I did notice looking around at some of the people there, that they seemed shocked as well. I did hear the table next to me as well saying they would not be returning back there again either. Sometimes it is better to leave things the way they are, as the rule goes…if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it!!!

Would notg let me pick ZERO stars. Don't eat here worst place ever. McDonalds is better if you can believe it. Waitress sticks and is rude.

The service is bad and the cook that was there at the time was not worried about cooking but more about talking and joking with the girls that work there, and most of it was very inappropriate not only that but i never once seen anyone wash their hands after doing anything.(SICK) When we proceeded to walk out I had gotten stopped by the young girl that stared at us when we walked in the place.. She gave me and attitude and asked me "can i help you?" I said no, she got mad and walked over by the cook and started talking very rude about us you would thank the owner would do something about this but no he was play and joking around too. I will never eat there again. The place should really be closed down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
