10/31/2009 - Kevin
This is my new favorite place to eat. I've lived in Rapid City for just over 2 years now and have tried nearly every local eatery around. Honacker's is by far the best sandwich you can get.
Their Chicken Cordon Bleu will take on any sub, hoagie or hamburger in this state and come out victorious. With the blend of light and dark chicken perfectly seasoned, the grilled mushrooms and deli sliced ham topped with a good amount of provolone cheese all placed on a lightly grilled hoagie bun, this sandwich will fulfill any and all of your hunger's needs and desires. Not only is this the most delightful sandwich I have had in recent memory but ol' Honacker isn't done yet. Along with the Cheesesteaks, Chicken Cheesesteaks, and several other sandwiches, he also has a list of varying pastas, soups, and chilies to go with it. From a seafood salad or bacon mac and cheese to the homemade chili, he's got ya covered.
So ya think that's it? Well there's still more to come. Along with all the amazing food he's also got a huge list of hand made jellies, mustards and salsas. I don't think there's enough room for me to list everything he's got in his arsenal of canned goodies but let's just say that it's very extensive.
And how can I leave out the service? A warm greeting at the door, absolutely no rush ordering, polite conversation while your order is prepared, and a heartfelt thank you as you leave to experience the best of the Black Hills. You couldn't ask for more.
One thing I should mention, this is definitely not a suit and tie kind of place, as a matter of fact there isn't any seating unless you'd like them to bring your order to you in the casino next door. There are 3 reasons this is not an issue: #1 - There is a park literally right across the street where you can sit and watch the people and wildlife of South Dakota from the safety of your vehicle :)
#2 - These are made HOT and fresh so they will still be warm by the time you get home or back to your hotel. I live about 5 miles away and I have to let mine cool down a bit before eating.
And #3 - If you don't go, you will be missing out on absolutely the best sandwiches and service in all of South Dakota.
Though I have not tried everything on the menu, I don't need to in order to tell you that if you live here, or are just passing through,...if you don't stop here, you're missing out on something much more special than Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse.
Thanks for reading this and cheers to your next great experience in the black hills.
