Big Wheels Resort will be back!
09/09/2020 - Voice from long ago
It was sometime between 1975-79 when we went to Big Wheels frequently. As the place burned down and fell over my rating will have no impact on them.
I recall a finished wood interior and red stained exterior. The floor may have been concrete but I am not sure. I was 6-10 when we ate there and recall sandwiches arriving in paper lined plastic baskets and breakfast being normal plates with generous portions.
I always liked to look around the property and as I recall there is a fast flowing creek on the east boundary of the parking lot. The creek and the Big Wheels at the other end of the property always attracted me but my parents made me stay away, far away from 44.
An unplanned trip to the area may be in our future, I was wanting to show my daughter a place from my childhood. I also wanted to show her Shingletown Airport but I don’t think it is still there. I can’t explore much our truck and trailer are too big so a stop at Big Wheels was likely all I can do. I hope we can drag a big trailer through Lassen Park, if it does not burn.
