This place is excellent. Unique rolls, freshest fish in the city (and I've been to a lot of sushi places), staff is alway so nice and friendly. It is smaller inside than most restaurants, but even when it's busy the food is always fresh and on time. I recommend the Booty Booty roll, A's roll, Tom and Jerry roll, and OMG.

If you read some of the other reviews, I'm not sure if they were confusing this place...because I have never had bad fish or service!

Salmon, Blue Fin O Toro, and Hamachi are excellent!!! Salmon (nigiri or sashimi) is buttery, fresh, beautiful color. BF O Toro is divine when they have it. Hamachi is quite nice; creamy and soft. The Tuna is ok. Not as nice as the salmon; hence, why I gave a 9 for food. But than again I am not too wild for tuna. Tuna has to be really sublime to impress me... In 22 years of sushi eating, I have been impressed once...
The rolls are varied, interesting and quite delicious.
Favorite rolls: OMG- deep fried roll with pieces of (raw) spicy scallop, tuna, and salmon on top. Honestly I am not too fond of all things deep fried, it is the spicy scallop, tuna and salmon that I like in this roll. Wow- big roll of avocado, tuna, salmon, hamachi with unagi on top. Alaska- crab roll with salmon on top. Red Dragon- shrimp temp roll with unagi on top, and chopped tuna and tobiko on top of unagi. Super Unagi- unagi with a nice sauce and ikura (salmon roe) on top.
Also good: 3 Amigos- like Wow roll minus the unagi; Spicy Double Hamachi- spicy hamachi inside with hamachi on top.
There are many other rolls besides these...
The gyoza are moist and juicy. Can't really speak for anything else on the menu as we mainly order nigiri or sashimi and maki...
The owners are a delight and the servers are fast, attentive and very, very pleasant.
The prices are VERY reasonable. Last night's take out of 4 orders nigiri (8 pieces) and 5 rolls (26 pieces--> 2 rolls @ 4 pieces per and 3 rolls @ 6 pieces per) came to $66 after tax before tip. It was plenty!!
We eat in or take out at least once a week sometimes as many as 3x a week (!) and have been customers for the past year. We prefer eating in to take out but we have 3 children under 7 years...
The harsh reviews and low ratings are little surprising. The are many sushi restaurants in the city and a few on the same street as Asa. We always return here b/c the quality is consistent and the people are a delight. Every time feels like we are eating with good friends.
Give Asa a try; see for yourself.

Don't eat deep fried rolls because oil was old.

Great place! Small, intimate, cute and relaxing. Service was was wonderful. They even gave us a free sampling of dessert. We felt like we were the only customers there are the busy Saturday night.

I have to give Asa Sushi a poor rating as the food was terrible and grossly overpriced. And also I have not seen a worser service and attitude elsewhere. This is not a place we ever would want to go again. I want my money back.
