Living in San Francisco since 2001, I finally checked out Red's Java House with my son, who's a French fry connoisseur and has traveled the world tasting food. Despite the pouring rain, stepping inside felt like a time warp back to the 1940s, with friendly service, a simple menu, and amazing views of the Bay. We enjoyed classic fish and chips and fries while soaking in the vibe, and I can see why it's been a beloved waterfront hangout for decades.

Best restaurant in town

I would wrestle a dozen pit bulls if i could sink my teeth into one of the finest double cheese burgers made by man or woman.

So incredibly yummy on that splendiferous sourdough roll.

One of the few things I miss about my home state of California is Red's burger.

Sitting in my parked delivery truck, reading the Chronicle and Herb's column, reveling in the sights and smells of the area. I would rather eat a Red's burger parked there than dine in the highest-rated elite-class restaurant.

If only I could win the Lottery so I could trek the 1,800 miles for another Red's burger!!!
